The Role:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading business development with strategic utilities and energy market aggregators to develop new utility or energy market programs and to facilitate participation into existing utility or market programs, capturing value from GM electric vehicles, GM Energy V2X products, and GM Energy stationary storage products. You will work cross-functionally with various internal stakeholder groups, including Product, Sales, Delivery, PMO, Marketing, Legal and Policy to establish and drive business development initiatives that reduce the total cost of ownership for GM electric vehicles, GM Energy V2X or stationary storage products and advance energy markets for these products. You will work externally with various utility stakeholders at all levels, as well as energy market partners, energy policymakers and industry stakeholders to influence the direction of V2X and energy programs.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities): 

  • Lead business development, scoping and contracting activities with strategic utility and energy market aggregator partners for managed charging, V2X, and energy storage programs

  • Establish strategic relationships with utilities located in the Midwest and West regions, including alignment with all levels of the organization, and facilitate regular meetings between GM leadership and utility executives to define and drive mutually beneficial strategic objectives

  • Collaborate with leading utilities to define the next generation of V2X and distributed energy resource programs to make the enrollment and participation experience seamless for GM customers and reduce total cost of ownership

  • Test and define new business models for GM and utilities that enable broader adoption and full value capture of V2X and distributed energy resources

  • Define and manage strategic partnerships with energy market aggregators that enable a competitive advantage and broad market access for GM customers to participate in utility and market programs

  • Partner with the product and vehicle engineering teams to lead GM’s vehicle-to-grid strategy, testing and rollout, and drive utility collaboration efforts on V2G

  • Participate in policy organizations, forums, and consortiums such as ATE, VGIC, VP3, NARUC, PLMA, etc. in partnership with GM policy team, to advance and drive market adoption of vehicle-grid integration initiatives, enabling sales and new revenue sources for GM

  • Research and analyze energy market trends, evaluate market opportunities, and develop competitive benchmarks to develop strategies that enable broad customer access to GM Energy’s products and services

  • Develop and socialize recommendations for V2X and energy storage business development initiatives to support improvement of GM Energy’s products, services and offerings to customers

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications): 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

  • 5-7+ years of professional experience in the following areas: Electric vehicle charging, environmental analysis, energy management, business, engineering, public policy or related fields.

  • Required: Experience working within a utility, preferably in delivering renewable energy or virtual power plant offerings or proven experience in business development with utilities. 

  • Strong knowledge of energy markets, utility programs and market development surrounding adoption of GM Energy’s chargers, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems, and residential energy storage systems (ES
