Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Transmission is seeking a Senior Engineer to join their team in Pittsburg, California.

 

In this role, you will support the safe operations and maintenance of the operational substation in Alpine, CA, as well as new substations under construction throughout Southern California. Initial support will be focused primarily on the Alpine facility, with increasing responsibility for additional Southern California substations as they are commissioned and brought online.
 
Activities may include protective relay settings, vendor coordination, field commissioning, high voltage switching, construction and energization support, and associated local, state, and federal compliance activities. You will serve as an operations point of contact for NEET activities in Southern California, which could include after-hours emergency response and air travel to support restoration or operational needs at the affected site.
 
Employees in this role apply diversified engineering knowledge to support safe, reliable, and regulatory compliant construction, upgrades, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protective relaying systems, substation integration and automation systems, substation control systems, and remote terminal units. This includes tracking and reporting maintenance and project progress, supporting compliance with NERC PRC and CIP standards, and ensuring work aligns with construction specifications, operating standards, and procedures.
 
This position may also support other NextEra Energy Transmission projects in the state and North America as assigned, including technical assistance, design reviews, major projects, and commissioning support. Travel may be required up to 25%.

This position conducts analysis on system performance and reliability strategy and provides recommendations.

  • Provides engineering, design and environmental support
  • Tracks and reports on project negotiations and performance
  • Delivers company standards, policies, training, and support of organization
  • Prepares communications, presentations and provides support at meetings
  • Formulates researches, and develops improvement measures
  • Works with other departments within the organization to establish customer requirements and project costs
  • Ability to meet attendance and storm duty requirements
  • Ability to work extended hours
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (non-Engineering Technology), OR
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, if the bachelor’s degree is not in a pure engineering field.
  • At least one degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) must be from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Experience: 5+ years post-Bachelor’s degree in engineering

  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certified
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
  • Master's Degree
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certified
  • Six Sigma Master Black Belt

 

The estimated base pay for this position is $104,800.00 to $157,200.00 per year. Starting pay will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, job-related and industry knowledge and skills and education/training.
