About the role

PrimeLending is a leading national home lender focused on empowering the pursuit of homeownership. We are seeking a Senior Appraisal Desk Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Appraisal Department, ensuring compliance with the Appraiser Independence Requirements (AIR), FNMA/FHLMC, HUD, investor, and internal policies. Oversees appraisal operations, vendor partnerships, system integration, and quality control. Leads a team of appraisal professionals and review appraisers to deliver timely, compliant, and service-oriented appraisal processes that support the company's lending goals.

This is a hybrid role. The work location is North Dallas (75010). 

  • Serve as primary appraisal subject matter expert for internal departments
  • Communicate departmental performance, risk indicators, and emerging issues to senior leadership
  • Lead development and continuous improvement of appraisal-related policies and procedures to drive efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor adherence to USPAP, AIR, TALCB, FNMA, FHA, and investor standards; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage and optimize relationships with third parties and vendors
  • Provide support for seamless integration between the Appraisal Management System and the Loan Origination System (LOS); troubleshoot and resolve system issues in partnership with IT and vendors; lead development of rules within systems and procedures for teams
  • Provide operational leadership
  • Oversee end-to-end appraisal order processes, including receipt, uploading, assignment, and delivery within required service level expectations
  • Maintain accurate, auditable records of appraisal activity by market and vendor
  • Conduct appropriate research in accordance with Fannie Mae, HUD and PrimeLending guidelines
  • Oversees the receipt, uploading and delivery of appraisal orders; ensure the appropriate parties receive the appraisal orders within the required timeframe
  • Ensure working file is retained per USPAP and TALCB standards and regulations
  • Maintain current information about industry practices and procedures
  • Plan staffing levels; partner with Human Resources to recruit, interview, select, hire and employ an appropriate number of employees
  • Provide oversight and direction in the operating unit(s) in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures; delegate responsibilities appropriately expecting accountability
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of appraisers and support staff; build a high-performance culture focused on quality, compliance, and service.
  • Develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities
  • Lead employees to meet organization’s expectations for productivity, quality and goal accomplishment
  • Provide support to leadership in managing operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities of the department
  • Assess resources necessary to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals; provide recommendations to management
  • Make business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with organization policies and procedures
  • Review performance data to monitor and measure departmental productivity, goal achievement, and overall effectiveness
  • Maintain communication with internal and external contacts (including senior leadership levels) as necessary to ensure expectations and timelines are met
  • Monitor productivity and quality metrics; recommend and implement improvements based on data and feedback.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and vendor costs in alignment with business objectives.

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of appraisal experience required, relevant experience in lieu of a degree may be considered
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the mortgage industry; 2 years in a leadership or management capacity
  • Deep knowledge of FNMA, FHA, VA, and investor appraisal requirements; familiarity with state licensing boards and regulatory bodies
  • Experience managing appraisal management systems and integrating them with loan origination platforms
  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with various levels within the organization
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent detail orientation, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated judgment and decision-making ability with the ability to negotiate and influence decision making.
