Patient Technology Specialist

Job Description:

Responsible for working with various therapeutic disciplines to provide technical support of gamification of the respective therapy (such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Expressive Therapies, Child Life, etc.). Maintain gaming technology that is accessed by patients such as Xboxes, Nintendo, PlayStation, XR, and 3D printing products. Must be familiar with trending popular recreational technology and how it can be integrated into current patient facing hospital needs. Work with leaders, clinical staff, patients, and their families from multidisciplinary groups to provide coordinated support and the strategic delivery of one time and ongoing projects.

• Shift Details: Full-time (40 hrs/wk)
  ​We are open to the 3 types of schedules below, that are in order of our preference:

•  1. Sunday - Thursday 9:00am - 5:00pm
• 2. Tuesday - Saturday 9:00am - 5:00pm
• 3. Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm

• Department: Primary Children's Hospital

• Additional Details:
  Experience with 3D printing,
  Experience in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Expressive Therapies, or Child Life
  Associates Degree, Patient Technology Certification, or equivalent work experience is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of current digital gaming hardware and software
• Experience with XR technology
• Knowledge of IOS, Android, and Windows-based devices
• Background in 3D printing use
• Experience working with children ages 2-18

Essential Functions

• Work directly with patients, families, and staff to create individualized technology-based support that enhances the patient’s experience.
• Assist with oversight and training of volunteers.
• Provide extensive knowledge in video gaming and gaming culture.
• Provide technical assistance to Child Life, Expressive Therapies, School Services, OT/PT among other disciplines.
• Research upcoming technologies and maintain current gaming equipment.
• Coordinate scheduling with multi-disciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year experience working or volunteering in a hospital setting with patients and families
• Certified Recreation Therapist, Child Life Specialist, or certificate in Patient Technology
• Bachelor’s Degree.  Degree must be from an accredited institution and will be verified.

• Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
• Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
