About the Role:
We are seeking a Lead Scientific Software Developer to join our research group. As a developer, you will involve the architecture, design, implementation, testing and deployment of novel technologies and integration of vendor platforms to add proven value and impact to streamline and automate lab and informatics processes.
What You’ll Do:
- Work closely in partnership with scientists to understand scientific challenges, data needs, business needs, technology, and software requirements
- Maintain strong expertise and knowledge of current and emerging technologies and products, evaluating and implementing AWS services, open-source, and vendor software
- Integrate both on-prem systems and cloud-based platforms to support NGS automation workflow consisting of data generation, acquisition, cataloging, analysis, and visualization
- Design, prototype and implement workflows for processing of large-scale sequencing and other data
- Full-stack development of a serverless website application that employ search, data integration, and data visualization components for scientific researchers and data scientists
- Establish best-practices in software LCM with code-reviews, version control, CI/CD and documentation
- Maintain good documentation, software release communication, and architecture designs
- Support and mentor the performance and career of a team of bioinformaticians and software engineers
Who You Are:
You will be interested in building and implementing solutions for processing exabytes of data.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Bachelors bioinformatics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology or a related discipline with 6+ relevant industry experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry OR Master’s with 3+ years relevant industry experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry
- Strong understanding of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data generation process
- Good understanding of workflow orchestration framework such as WDL and Nextflow and Docker
- Exposure to the following programming languages: JavaScript (NodeJS, ReactJS), Java, and Python
- Experience working on all stages of systems development life cycle using version control (i.e Git)
- Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills directing and motivating a multi-functional team
- Exposure to infrastructure as code framework like Serverless Framework, AWS CloudFormation
- Exposure to CI/CD pipeline using automation tools such as Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild
- Deployed data design pattern to support large-scale structured/unstructured data for AI/ML efforts
Preferred Skills:
- Hands-on experience with microservice development and AWS serverless technology is highly desirable
