About the role

We are looking for a talented Manufacturing Engineer – Senior to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our location in KY, Frankfort. 

Job Summary: 

Leads the planning, designing, purchasing, and implementation of changes to the manufacturing equipment and systems while leading and co-leading teams. 

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Optimize Manufacturing Processes: Integrating product design and manufacturing equipment engineering drawings will support the design and development of optimal manufacturing processes that meet product specifications. 
  • Select Appropriate Equipment: By selecting manufacturing equipment that meets Cummins' specifications and project needs, you'll ensure that the equipment is suitable for the intended applications. 
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Using digital tools to model and simulate manufacturing processes will enable you to make data-driven decisions and drive continuous improvements in manufacturing performance. 
  • Document Processes: Producing written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence will establish continuity and standardization in processes, ensuring that all stakeholders follow the correct procedures. 
  • Design Ergonomic Workstations: Designing operator workstations that are safe, healthy, and ergonomic will contribute to an efficient work environment, balancing cost, quality, and delivery. 

To be successful in this role you will need the following: 

  • Apply Manufacturing Principles: Utilize your advanced knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices to improve equipment and processes, ensuring they meet safety, manufacturing, and business goals. 
  • Lead Projects: Take charge of specific projects, overseeing the creation and implementation of manufacturing processes that align with product specifications and organizational objectives. 
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Tools: Employ continuous improvement tools and follow Cummins standards to enhance manufacturing processes and develop new standards and working methods. 
  • Communicate Effectively: Lead communications with key external stakeholders, business leaders, and functional members, influencing decisions and ensuring alignment with project goals. 
  • Collaborate with Resources: Work with both internal and external resources on project assignments, leveraging their expertise to achieve project success. 
  • Coach and Maintain Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, providing coaching and support to ensure their engagement and alignment with project objectives. 
  • Ensure Safety Compliance: Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with safety requirements, creating a safe working environment and meeting regulatory standards. 
  • Drive Business Goals: Align manufacturing processes with business goals, ensuring that projects contribute to the overall success and competitiveness of the organization. 


Education, Licenses, Certifications: 
College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required. 
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. 

Experience: 
Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.  
  • 5 years+ Previous experience as a manufacturing engineer or similar role 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods and tool design 
  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment  
  • Commitment to health and safety stand
