The University of Miami School of Law has a great opportunity for a Senior Manager, Programs Environmental Justice Clinic to work at the Coral Gables Campus.

CORE JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager of Programs will serve and support the Environmental Justice Clinic (EJC), providing administrative and paralegal support to faculty and acting as a liaison between faculty, students, and other units within the University of Miami, alumni, and community members.  This position also assists in the development, monitoring, and reporting of the Clinic’s budget and accounts.

The Environmental Justice Clinic works with students, clients, and partners on environmental cases and campaigns in communities of color in Miami and South Florida.  Its mission is to educate, train, and inspire the next generation of leaders and advocates for equitable and regenerative environments.  Its cases and campaigns address the climate crisis, pollution, and the built environment, involving advocacy before local, state, and federal administrative courts and tribunals, and other domestic and international for a, as well as other forms of advocacy, including factual investigations, report-writing, law reform and legislative initiatives, and community empowerment.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:

Serve as paralegal to the Clinic, including communicating with clients and the legal community, assisting with filings and legal documents, and assisting with client intake and interaction.   Community outreach, including representing the EJC at meetings and event Manage the Clinic’s communications, including social media, a biannual newsletter and the Clinic website Serves as main point of contact for students and remains available to assist with inquiries. Serves as main point of contact for students and remains available to assist with inquires.  Prepares, maintains, and reports on Clinic effectiveness. Assists with managing the EJC budget by monitoring expenditures. Stays abreast of market trends and legislation impacting EJC functions. Checks, verifies, organizes, and prepares grants, procurement, and other EJC relevant documents. Coordinates logistics for EJC events and activities. Works with other departments to increase EJC awareness. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the EJC and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions:

Students

Serve as main point of contact for students on administrative matters. Trains and supervises students on office procedures and case management, including Clio, Shared Drives, and emails. Coordinates student recruitment and registration. Provides day-to-day paralegal support to faculty and student interns on various issues related to managing case and project work.

Communications and Outreach

Coordinates logistics for program events and activities. Serve as a liaison with other UM departments to coordinate joint programs and opportunities. Organize events including conferences and community meetings, Develops strategic partnerships with external entities and organizations. Overseeing the program’s social media presence and helping to maintain the website. Assists with database maintenance, including creating and maintaining mailing lists.

Clinical Support

Serves as the paralegal to the EJC, including but not limited to communicating with clients, judges, and the legal community, assisting with court filings and legal documents, and assisting with the client intake process. Develops, organizes, and maintains the filing systems for clinic classes and a large volume of clinic clients. Manages the law clinic’s electronic case management and online platforms, including Clio, Box, Blackboard, and WorkDay. Maintains office space and supplies, technological repairs, IT/AV/Facilities requests, and Canon service requests.

Faculty Support

Coordinates guest visits, including with clients, guest speakers, and visiting faculty. Responds to various instructor requests and telephone, email, and internet submissions for all programs.
