Security  Officer I  JOB DESCRIPTION - 

 

Atlantic Health System is seeking a Security Officer for the Security Department at Morristown Medical Center – Days and Shift Hours may vary.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The selected candidate must be able to work, first, second and third shifts, weekends and Holidays and over time as required.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. and stand for at least 4 hours at a time.
  • The candidate must be able to attend mandatory training sessions.
  • Proficiency with computers is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with the department's computer system are essential.
  • The selected candidate must be able to engage with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • This position includes safety tours of the facility and grounds, responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, and gathering information, completing electronic reports, de-escalating violent or threatening individuals. 
  • The candidate will be exposed to Bio-Hazards such as Blood, Vomit, Saliva, and Urine.
  • The candidate will be required to pass an N95 Fit Test. Be able to wear an N95 or surgical mask for short and extended periods of time.
  • The candidates will be oriented on one or more shifts during their initial orientation.  
  • Candidates will be required to pass an AHS approved physical control tactics course. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

High School Graduate 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior Law enforcement, Fire Service or EMS, or Behavioral Health experience highly preferred.
  • Former Military, Reserve Military and Law Enforcement candidates preferred. 
  • Thorough background checks conducted.
  • Ability to write detailed reports, and strong verbal skills are essential.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: 

  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate or bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • High School Diploma plus Military, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Service or Security experience, will be considered in lieu of associate's degree.

 

LEVEL I - 0-3 years of prior experience - High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelors' Degree or equivalent combination of education/experience. All legally/reasonably expected certifications needed for function and level. Work assignments are straight-forward and of moderate complexity. Makes decisions regarding own work, approach, and priorities. Typically receives detailed instructions on work, approach and priorities. No leadership responsibility.

LEVEL II - 3-5 years of prior experience - Associates/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/experience. All legally/reasonably expected certifications needed for function and level. Work assignments are varied and require interpretation and independent decisions on course of action. Makes decisions regarding own work methods. Requires minimal direction. Seeks guidance where needed. Follows established guidelines/procedures.

LEVEL III - 5+ years of prior experience - Bachelors' Degree or equivalent combination of education/experience. All legally/reasonably expected certifications needed for function and level. Regularly exercises independent judgement on matters of significance within defined procedures to determine appropriate actions/approaches. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components and completion of own tasks/responsibilities of substantial complexity. Work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. May model/mentor and teach staff within own function or family.

LEVEL IV - HS Diploma or equivalent. Bachelors' Degree or equivalent combination of education/experience. All legally/reasonably expected certifications needed for function and level. Leads complex projects/activities on regular basis. Determines daily priorities for work group; provides guidance/assists staff on non-routine/escalated issues. Requires little instruction on day to day work and general direction on more complex tasks and projects. Provides work guidance over a function, including checking and assigning work, to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks.
