Job Description

At LGC, we are looking for a highly dedicated Senior Bioinformatician to elevate our bioinformatics operations to new heights. To perform this job successfully, you'll be responsible for:
- Leading targeted genotyping assay designs, identifying and implementing design improvements as required
- Communicating with internal teams, including lab personnel, and external clients to understand project requirements, analysis needs, and potential challenges, effectively describing analysis results or issues
- Independently generating troubleshooting analyses and pipelines as required
- Analyzing genotyping and other sequencing data; providing regular results and reporting
- Participating in quality assurance procedures and project execution
- Developing, completing, and reviewing strategies to enhance data analyses and pipelines for efficiency and quality
- Collaborating with the Bioinformatics team to develop and maintain shared analysis pipelines and processes
- Partnering with internal teams and external clients to coordinate the execution of pilot projects regarding new technologies
- Guiding or supporting junior personnel within areas of business field
- Staying current in the industry by attending educational opportunities, conferences, and workshops, reading publications, and maintaining personal and professional networks
- Supporting business and customer needs by performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, genetics, or another related field — or an equivalent combination of applicable education and relevant work experience
- Proven work experience in the fields of bioinformatics, genetics, genotyping, molecular biology, or DNA sequencing
- Prior experience applying methods for analyzing short-read sequencing data
- Proficiency in the English language, including proven communication skills with a variety of audiences
- Previous experience with Bash and Python as well as other scripting languages
- Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience in bioinformatics, molecular biology, genetics, or another related field
- Familiarity using genetic data for phylogenetic and evolutionary analyses
- Experience with sequencing-based genotyping, variant calling, and targeted genotyping design
- Pipeline development and code versioning experience
- Proven understanding of how sequence and genetic data are collected, analyzed, and interpreted
- Knowledge of experimental variables that impact DNA sequencing and genotyping approaches
- Experience working for a life sciences or biotechnology company
