Position Summary:

We are seeking a translational scientist with a background in cardiovascular biology to identify and discover novel and existing biomarkers to support the progression of late-discovery programs to early phase clinical trials and beyond. As such, this position will involve a close collaboration with the development organization. The translational scientist may serve as a liaison of discovery to development. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with early discovery team members to drive the progression of programs, which may include assisting the completion of pharmacology studies and guide the selection and analysis of endpoints to support an early translational development plan, including patient segmentation hypotheses. They will be able to apply their knowledge of cardiovascular biology and translational aspects of cardiovascular medicine to establish pharmacodynamic endpoints consistent with mechanism of action, which may involve in vivo, functional-structural analyses and ex vivo or in vitro biochemical or molecular assays, including the development of novel assays. The position may work with human samples or human-relevant systems to test translational hypotheses identified in support of  biomarker plan development. This is primarily an on-site, lab-based position but time in lab may be dependent on programmatic needs as discovery programs progress to development, to be determined in collaboration with the manager.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform studies to define pharmacodynamic biomarkers of response and disease progression, as a member of a discovery team and can investigate and articulate how these biomarkers may translate to the clinic.

  • Thorough knowledge of experimental design, and a high level of technical laboratory skills (including cell culture of relevant cell lines and primary cells, immunoassays, such as ELISA/MSD, IHC, protein signaling, qPCR technology platforms) together with an ability to interpret results.

  • Employs technical knowledge and theory to make experimental in-life modifications, when necessary.

  • Lead studies to completion, including the hands-on analysis of samples internally or directing studies externally through management of CROs.

  • Evaluate programs critically and present findings and recommendations to discovery teams and leadership.

  • Document, critically review, modify experimental approach, if necessary, and present experimental data in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams by providing timely and actionable study results.

  • Provide hands-on training and guidance to develop team members

  • Contribute to and author reports, abstracts, and publications.
