JOB PURPOSE/ROLE
This role is part of the Risk team of Allianz Asset Management GmbH and reports to the Head of Risk Management of Asset Management Segment (Head RM Asset Management). The Head RM Asset Management and her team are independent from the Investment and Risk teams at the business units PIMCO and Allianz Global Investors, and responsible to support protecting Allianz from losses and reputational damage in its Asset Management business through effective oversight and advice. The governance structure within which you will be working is designed to maintain independence from and strong relationships with the key control functions of PIMCO and Allianz Global Investors. The successful candidate will be responsible to establish a holistic independent view of investment and product risk oversight policies, processes and procedures that exist at the two business units, thereby contributing to the effective oversight of crucial risks and offering the opportunity to have insights into multi asset class investment strategies and exposures of a world-leading asset management business. You will build credibility with stakeholders globally through deep market knowledge and investment risk management experience in the Asset Management industry. The candidate should have a strong analytical background, strong organizational skills, passion for investing, motivation from a team environment, and the ability to learn about new analytical applications and investment products. The position is at the crossroad of technical expertise, inquisitive mind-set, and capacity to analyze, convince and negotiate, allowing the job holder to reinforce its expertise and develop on others.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review of investment risk and product oversight policies, processes and procedures that exist at PIMCO and Allianz Global Investors and provide advice
- Maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders at Allianz SE, Allianz Asset Management, PIMCO and Allianz Global Investors
- Secure overarching view of approaches to investment and portfolio risk management and oversight at both business units, and risk-based identification of areas for further focus
- Development of asset management implementation strategies for relevant Allianz Group-wide initiatives and programs (e.g. ESG)
- Ensure a clear view of portfolio/investment strategy reviews, especially with regard to riskier books of business; create consolidated analysis and views to the Head RM Asset Management
- Review and challenge standard and ad-hoc stress and scenario analyses conducted by the respective control functions at PIMCO and Allianz Global Investors; create consolidated analysis and views to the Head RM Asset Management
- Ensure a clear view of product governance processes and procedures; as mandated, confirm adequacy of controls or provide advice on improvements
- Monitor key risk indicators that help to identify product/strategy setup-related complexities and/or constraints that require review or referral; review referral cases and provide recommendations
- Review and, if deemed necessary, challenge and discuss seed money risk assessments
- Stay abreast of relevant industry practices and regulatory matters
KEY REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- 8-12 years of relevant experience within best-in-class financial institutions: investment risk management and/or asset management
- Experience and a robust understanding of different investment risk methodologies, such as VaR and multi-factor stress testing
- A deep knowledge of several asset classes
- Ability to build strong collaborative relationships across a global business with stakeholders across different locations and entities
- Proven collaboration and teamwork skills as the role involves a significant part of interactions and stakeholder management
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; fluent English is essential, fluent German would be a plus
- Experience in working with auditors and regulators
- Be reliable, accountable and display rigor and transparency
- Analytical and astute approach to tasks
- Ability to process large amount of information and to synthesize them
- Being able to work under high pressure and show strong resilience and flexibility
- Agility and strong sense of accountability
- CFA or equivalent would be a plus
- A high level of numeracy; programming skills would be a plus
- Very good command of MS Office applications
