The Public Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in developing and executing public safety strategies and objectives at TJS. This role is responsible for managing safety risks while ensuring the creation and maintenance of a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that aligns with the school’s operational needs and future growth plans. Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Operations, the Public Safety Manager works closely with various departments to develop and enforce effective safety plans, measures, and procedures that support academic activities, performances, events, public functions, and other institutional requirements.
Responsibilities:
1. General Public Safety Management
- Develop and Implement Safety Procedures: Design, establish, and regularly update all public safety procedures and measures, ensuring comprehensive protection of people and property, as well as robust security and fire prevention across the campus.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Continuously assess safety risks and develop practical, effective risk mitigation strategies and programs to maintain a secure and welcoming environment at TJS.
- Security Management: Oversee all public safety-related matters, with an emphasis on managing and coordinating the outsourced security team. Ensure the security team is fully trained, knowledgeable, and properly implements all relevant procedures and measures to safeguard the TJS community, partners, visitors, audience, and the public.
- Maintenance and Equipment Management: Implement and oversee a comprehensive maintenance plan for security and firefighting systems, equipment, applications, and devices. Collaborate closely with the Facilities team and external maintenance vendors to ensure all systems and equipment remain fully operational.
- Training and Drills: Plan, organize, and conduct all safety-related training and drills to ensure that staff, faculty, students, parents, and the outsourced security team are well-prepared for various safety scenarios.
- Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and optimize all safety-related processes and procedures in response to changing circumstances, ensuring that TJS consistently upholds effective safety and security measures to mitigate risks across all areas of responsibility.
- Collaboration and Communication: Proactively collaborate with internal stakeholders, external authorities, and the outsourced security team to effectively manage campus safety and optimize safety measures and procedures, especially in emergency response and event support. Establish and maintain effective communication channels with all relevant parties.
2. Emergency Response
- Emergency and Crisis Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive emergency response plans and procedures tailored to various academic activities, performances, programs, and events. Ensure these plans are effectively communicated and practiced within the TJS community, including the outsourced security team.
- Crisis Management: Serve as the primary frontline responder during emergencies or crises. Adhere to established emergency response procedures to ensure prompt, effective, and coordinated actions during a crisis.
- Training and Drills for Emergencies:Plan, organize, and conduct all necessary emergency response training and drills, ensuring the TJS community and the outsourced security team are fully prepared for various emergency scenarios.
3. Event Support
- Event Safety Planning: Develop and implement detailed security and safety procedures to support all programs and events, ensuring that appropriate safety measures are in place to meet event safety requirements.
- Crisis Response during Events: Act as the primary responder during emergencies or crises at events, ensuring that emergency response procedures are effectively followed and that all necessary safety measures are in place.
Professional Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, with at least 5 years of experience in public safety. Extensive experience in managing security teams, with a background in asset protection, public safety, security management, event and crisis management, situation analysis, and risk management.
