PROCESS DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be a part of the Process Development Drug Substance Technology group at Amgen’s FleX Batch Biologics Manufacturing Facility. The Process Development Associate Scientist will help design and perform experiments at the bench scale that span the end-to-end Drug Substance process, covering cell culture and/or purification operations. In this role, you will apply established platform approaches and utilize problem-solving skills to rapidly solve day-to-day experimental challenges. Additionally, the Process Development Associate Scientist will utilize out-of-the-box thinking to contribute to technology development and will demonstrate the desire to expand and develop expertise in cell culture and/or purification, thereby further contributing to the integrated group. 

  • Perform small-scale bioprocess experiments that encompass cell culture and/or purification operations 
  • Ensure safety and compliance of process development activities 
  • Experimental design and data interpretation, leveraging in-house visualization and analytics tools 
  • Contribute within a project team on commercial manufacturing goals such as improving process yield and robustness, and scaling-up processes to manufacturing sites 
  • Provide scientific technical support for technology transfer of processes to manufacturing sites 
  • Communication of findings through oral presentations and written documentation (technical reports as well as GMP documents to support regulatory filings)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and 1 year of Scientific experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in a Biotech/Pharma Process Development and/or Manufacturing Support role for drug substance manufacturing.  
  • Understanding of cell culture processes, influence of raw material attributes, and impact of process deviations to growth and quality attributes.  Harvest and clarification processes used for mammalian cell culture processes.  
  • Chromatography, ultrafiltration and normal flow filtration operations experience  
  • Chemical engineering principles for the scale up of unit operations from bench scale to commercial scale.  
  • Able to apply engineering principles and statistical analysis, including design of experiments, in-order to solve processing issues and evaluate opportunities for process improvements  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication  
  • Experience developing and managing team training workflows and strategy.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work under moderate direction.  
  • Able to analyze and interpret data  
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to take on several projects at one time.
