Specialty Pharmacy Clinical Liaison

At NorthBay Health, The Specialty Clinic Liaison serves as the primary point of contact between specialty clinics, referring providers, and the NorthBay Specialty Pharmacy. This role is responsible for coordinating patient referrals to NB Specialty Pharmacy, facilitating communication, supporting clinic operations, and ensuring a seamless patient experience. The liaison works to strengthen provider relationships, improve referral processes, and support patient access to specialty medications and specialty pharmacy services.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Patient Access & Financial Coordination: to reduce therapy delays and abandonment rates.
Identify specialty medication referrals in real time to capture the RXs preventing leakage
Conduct benefits investigation.
Obtain prior authorizations (PAs) and submit clinical documentation.
Coordinate appeals for denials.
Enroll patients in copay assistance programs and foundation grants.
Provide cost transparency to providers and patients.
Track time-to-therapy metrics.
Provider & Clinic Support to streamline provider experience and increase confidence in specialty pharmacy services
Serve as the primary point of contact between clinic and specialty pharmacy.
Participate in clinic huddles and case discussions.
Troubleshoot pharmacy-related workflow issues.
Informing providers on insurance coverage changes/formulary and coverage criteria’s
.3. Patient Education & Onboarding to improve patient engagement and adherence.
Introduce specialty pharmacy services at point of care.
Explain prior authorization and insurance steps.
Coordinate first-fill counseling with pharmacist.
Set refill expectations and adherence support processes.
Operational Workflow Management to drive measurable performance improvements.
Monitor referral capture rates.
Track turnaround times.
Maintain dashboards for:
Conversion rate
Denial rate
Time to first fill
Clinic capture rate
Ensure compliance with payer and accreditation requirements (URAC, ACHC).
Relationship & Growth Development to strengthen long-term clinic partnerships and grow specialty volume.
Identify expansion opportunities (new providers, new service lines).
Support value-based care initiatives.
Provide quarterly business review (QBRs).
Collaborate on population health initiatives.
Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification: California Registered Pharmacy Technician preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in healthcare, Specialty Pharmacy, specialty clinic, or referral coordination. Experience with insurance verification and prior authorizations preferred.
Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent organizational and time management abilities. Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare workflows. Customer-service oriented mindset. Proficient in Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
