The Office of External Relations and Engagement:

The Office of External Relations and Engagement within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business is responsible for enhancing the college’s external presence and impact. We collaborate with college leadership and faculty on special events, conferences, corporate relations, special speaking opportunities, university-community engagement, and collaborations from within Cornell to across the globe.

The Senior Conference and Events Planner Opportunity:

The Senior Conference and Events Planner at SC Johnson College of Business is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, advising, and execution of logistics and format for a wide range of events and conferences aimed at enhancing the college's engagement with external stakeholders. This role involves collaborating with faculty, staff, alumni affairs and development (AAD) and industry partners to deliver impactful events that align with the college's strategic objectives and mission.

Roles, tasks, and responsibilities on specific events will vary. One event may need only minimal advice or interaction, while another may require independent leadership and substantive accountability, ranging from high-level strategic planning to hands-on front-line tasks such as printing nametags or arranging furniture. Setting priorities and aligning involvement with larger External Relations and college goals will inform how responsibilities will apply to any given event. Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in event planning and management, preferably in a higher education, hospitality or corporate setting.
  • Strong planning, organizational and project management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff (employee, student and volunteers), analyze and solve problems, and negotiate a wide variety of vendor terms (selection, price, delivery, payment, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel as needed to support events.
  • Understanding of the college/university social media platforms, proficiency in Word, Excel and event management software and tools.
  • Associate degree in marketing, communications, hospitality management, or a related field.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting
