Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Water Resource Engineer/Task Leader to join our Transportation Business Line based out of our Pittsburgh, PA office. In this position, you will work directly with our staff and clients to deliver waterway permitting, erosion and sediment pollution control plans, stormwater management design, hydrologic and hydraulic studies and highway drainage design. Experience with PennDOT Districts 1, 2, 9, 10, 11 and/or 12, as well as the PA Turnpike, PADEP and other western Pennsylvania agencies is highly desired.
The ideal candidate will perform the following duties, but will not be limited to:
- Lead, prepare or review detailed design deliverables such as calculations, reports, models, permit applications, construction drawings and specifications.
- Advise project teams on technical issues, perform deliverable quality reviews, assist with annual performance evaluations, support the professional development of junior engineers, assist with reporting project status and responsible to deliver elements of design within the project schedule and budget.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary design elements with other task leaders and/or group managers.
- Utilize modeling software applications for efficient design and coordination.
- Enhance client relationships as it pertains to our water resource capabilities.
- May assist with staffing and business development.
- Mentor engineers and designers within the group, both locally and throughout the Greater PA area.
The Greater Pennsylvania (GPA) Water Resources (WR) group at AECOM is made up of approximately ~25 diverse and driven team members including engineers, designers, drafters and managers with experience levels ranging from college intern up through senior leaders who all work collaboratively to teach, learn and deliver our projects both externally to our clients and internally to our respective interdisciplinary team leads. Located throughout the state of Pennsylvania with offices in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Conshohocken, we work cohesively as one unit to not only prepare work of the highest level of quality, but to also continually develop and evolve our team.
Here is a sampling of projects we've worked on in this group, as an example of the types of projects you and the team could work on at AECOM:
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project for Port Authority of Allegheny County – Pittsburgh, PA
- AECOM designed street improvements to facilitate Bus Rapid Transit service in a corridor connecting Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland - the two largest employment centers in Western PA. Team members were in charge of the drainage to a (combined sewer system) and E&SC design as well as stormwater management design for a small parking lot. The project area is extremely urbanized and includes infrastructure dating to the 19th century.
I-70 Yukon and Madison Interchanges
- AECOM designed complete reconstruction of 3 ½ miles of I-70 including the Yukon and Madison interchanges. The original highway was built in 1956 and had several ramps with no acceleration nor deceleration lanes at all. The design includes 3 roundabouts. Team members were in charge of the drainage, E&S design, H&H and stormwater management design.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering plus six (6) years of relevant water resource engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with water resources design software (Microstation In-Roads, Microstation Open-Roads, StormCAD, HydroCAD, Pondpack, HEC-RAS)

- 8 years of experience
- Experience with PennDOT Districts 1, 2, 9, 10, 11
