Job Description
As a Firmware Engineering Manager at Western Digital, you will lead a team responsible for developing and delivering cutting-edge firmware solutions that drive the functionality and performance of our storage products. This role is at the heart of innovation, integrating hardware and software technologies to meet market demands and ensure excellence in Western Digital's product lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of firmware engineers to deliver high-quality products on schedule.
- Oversee firmware development activities, including design, coding, testing, and debugging.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware engineering, system architecture, quality assurance, and product management teams.
- Drive firmware architecture and feature development to meet business and technical requirements.
- Manage projects and deliverables, balancing schedules, resources, and technical objectives.
- Implement and promote best practices for software development and testing processes.
- Ensure compliance with quality and operational standards, identifying and mitigating risks proactively.
- Monitor firmware performance and improve efficiency through continuous optimization efforts.
Qualifications
Educational Background:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
Experience:
- Expertise in a Firmware technical leadership or management role.
- Extensive experience in firmware/software engineering.
Leadership and Management:
- Ability to lead distributed teams and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and innovative mindset with a focus on quality and efficiency.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across teams and global cultures.
- Experience with storage systems, controllers, or other high‑reliability embedded platforms
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
