About the role

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. 

 

As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and HW infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for engineers with a passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure. 

 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Serviceability Engineer who will be responsible to drive technician-intuitive hardware design, system integration of DC hardware, ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and supporting documentation conform to the Safety & Serviceability requirements set in conjunction with Microsoft Datacenter Operations (I.e. Rack Movement, Installation, Energization, Servicing and Decommissioning). The candidate will interact with Engineering, EH&S, Supply Chain, Sourcing, Datacenter Operations, and other external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Combine technical and process expertise with in-depth understanding of service and operational expectations, refining the combination into solutions for future server and storage products. 
  • Define, facilitate and manage service manuals, training collateral, troubleshooting processes, and diagnostic methods through development and deployment. 
  • Generate precise, accurate troubleshooting processes and optimize existing processes. 
  • Support hardware design teams throughout the product life cycle and drive design for serviceability implementation. Participate in, and approve, mechanical and electrical design reviews to ensure serviceability requirements are properly implemented. 
  • Drive Service Readiness of new Microsoft hardware landing in Microsoft Datacenters. 
  • Ensure new Microsoft hardware Bills of Material (BOMs) identify the engineering-recommended serviceable parts for the spare parts teams. 
  • Support Hardware Systems Group development, deployment and sustaining teams from system concept to decommission. Work with cross-functional strategic teams on process optimizations and inter-related strategic initiatives. 
  • Drive best-practice solutions for serviceability into current and future server and rack-level designs. 
  • Define serviceability requirements and complete testing/verification of the hardware platforms.
