What’s the role?

The mission of the Trust & Safety organization is to make Etsy the most trusted ecommerce marketplace and shopping experience and to ensure safe connections between Etsy's community of buyers and sellers. We manage an expansive portfolio of risk and operations areas that includes Content Moderation, Seller Verification and Seller Risk, Global AML Operations, and Payments Fraud.

The Director of Seller Verification Operations leads Etsy’s Seller Verification team, composed of seller identity verification and due diligence specialists within the broader Trust & Safety organization, supporting operations across Etsy’s House of Brands. The team conducts seller onboarding (KYC/B), bank account verification, and enhanced due diligence processes to help Etsy meet its compliance obligations and promote better outcomes for buyers.

We are seeking a seasoned Director who thrives in driving structure in ambiguous spaces, working in fast paced environments and demonstrating critical thinking skills to define solutions to problem sets. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record to balance analytical thinking with detailed execution to help define the tools, roadmaps, and processes to enable the team to conduct due diligence reviews.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director of Seller Verification & Financial Crime Operations. What does the day-to-day look like?

• Lead and coordinate all aspects of the operations of Etsy’s Seller Verification teams, including seller onboarding and identity verification, bank account verification, and enhanced due diligence workflows.
• Supervise and serve as an escalation point for enhanced due diligence reviews, ensuring that cases are opened and actioned within the required timeframe.
• Develop and lead the execution of a long-term strategy for seller verification, creating a broad view of verification beyond compliance that serves to reduce negative outcomes downstream and improve buying outcomes.
• Partner cross-functionally to identify enhancement to seller verification that benefit teams beyond Trust & Safety, Legal, and Compliance.
• Lead, educate and mentor investigators, developing their investigative skills to enable them to conduct increasingly sophisticated investigations.
• Advise leadership of industry standard practices and new vendor offerings related to identity verification.
• Serve as final approver for investigatory procedures to ensure alignment with operational excellence, regulatory expectations and industry standards.
• Support the expansion of seller verification-related operational processes across Etsy, Inc., partnering with key collaborators across Etsy’s House of Brands.
• Establish and monitor relevant Key Performance Indicators and Key Risk Indicators to assess individual and group performance, to track against internal goals, and report performance data to senior management.
• Provide regular reporting to Trust & Safety leadership and the Etsy Executive Team regarding Seller Verification operational health and progress towards strategic goals.
• Support senior management in managing and responding to regulatory requests.
• Ensure that all investigatory activities are supported by adequate governance and controls.
• Efficiently implement improvements to various workflows to improve customer effort and satisfaction scores, turnaround times, and increase team-wide productivity.
• Take a leadership role during team-wide meetings to ensure meetings are efficient, effective, and provide important takeaways and action items.
