DEPARTMENT: Surgery

JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse - PAT

SHIFT: FTE 0.6 Part-Time (Day Shift - 48 hours bi-weekly)

JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse is responsible for day-to-day patient care operations and will provide direct patient care according to unit specific needs, and is responsible for assessing, planning, prioritizing, organizing, administering, and evaluating patient care.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  • Performs essential functions of clinical Registered Nurse staff related to direct patient care based on unit needs
  • Assures the accurate and timely delivery and documentation of patient care, including acknowledgement of physician’s orders, administration of treatments, medications, and related procedures.
  • Ensures accurate and complete admission assessment.
  • Oversees the preoperative admission process, assessment, planning, scheduling and implementation of day-to-day clinical activities and procedures for surgical patients.
  • Assesses patient/family learning needs, plans, or provides education, and evaluates the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Works with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and family practice physicians to facilitate, coordinate and ensure patients are      prepared for their scheduled procedures.
  • Requires thorough and complete understanding of perioperative nursing care practices, policies and procedures to function independently in area of specialty
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards
  • Serves as a clinical resource to staff members and assists with daily tasks, decision making and problem solving.
  • Uses AIDET format, establishes, maintains, and promotes among staff members and physicians positive working relationships with internal and external customers for the effective resolution of concerns in area of responsibility and in support of hospital goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of accredited professional nursing program, BSN preferred
  • Current RN license in Indiana
  • Current BLS-Healthcare provider within 3 months of hire
  • Current ALS certification withing 3 months of hire

Experience

  • Two years of previous perioperative nursing experience
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as an RN

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills to prepare and maintain various documentation/reports in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills promoting teamwork and group achievement as well as one on one communication with patients
  • Demonstrates proficient use of email and electronic medical record 

Requirements

  

Education Required

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program, BSN preferred.
  • Current RN license in the State of Indiana
  • Current BLS – Healthcare Provider within 3 months of hire

Licenses Requirements

  • Current State of Indiana licensure in Nursing

Certifications Required or Preferred

  • Current BLS-Healthcare provider within 3 months of hire
  • Current ALS certification withing 3 months of hire
