OPS Facilities Assistant (Chemical Engineering)

Job Description:

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Florida is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented OPS Facilities Assistant to support the department's facilities team. This position will involve maintaining lab safety and chemical inventory, assisting with lab cleanouts, and providing general facilities support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Complete all necessary chemical and biological safety trainings.
• Collaborate with labs and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) on chemical and sample waste disposal.
• Provide customer service on chemical inventory matters, including auditing inventory and correcting discrepancies.
• Perform basic housekeeping tasks (e.g., decontaminating assets, sweeping, dusting).
• Assist labs with surplus item pickup or drop-offs as needed.
• Handle deliveries and errands, including transporting supplies between buildings.
• Greet guests professionally, provide directions, and escort visitors to meetings when necessary.

 

Expected Salary:

Hourly Rate: $15 -$17; based on experience

Minimum Requirements:

• Ability to complete EH&S required hazard trainings successfully.
• Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and climb stairs or ladders.

• Strong communication skills.
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
• Proven experience providing professional customer service.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate work assignments.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and basic chemical hazard safety.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
