Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Resources is seeking a Principal Accountant to join the Gas Infrastructure - Revenue Accounting team in Houston, TX.  The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and take ownership of various projects, adding value through critical thinking and inter-personal skills with knowledge of the energy industry.
 
Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Assist Revenue Accountants with monthly Operated Revenue close.
  • Complete any needed Reverse/Rebooks as required.
  • Ensure entries are booked accurately and timely.
  • Follow up with purchasers regarding missing revenues. 
  • Perform monthly royalty check processes.
  • Make monthly SAP journal entries and Excalibur entries. 
  • Prepare and analyze monthly Revenue Reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze quarterly Excalibur to SAP Reconciliations.
  • Assist with owner inquiries and detailed owner reconciliations.
  • Maintain relationships with other departments within the organization to ensure that Revenue Accounting has the pertinent information for the monthly close.  
  • Work with the Division Order department regarding deck changes and Take in Kind Revenues.
  • Special projects or tasks as needed.

  • SAP Experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (vlookups, pivots, formulas, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excalibur and PowerBI experience helpful but not required

Job Overview

Employees in this role develop accounting policy through analysis of GAAP and business practices. Ensures accounting treatment is practical, cost-beneficial and accurately portrays the economic substance of business transactions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Analyzes proposed transactions for structure and proper accounting treatment under authoritative accounting literature
•   Reviews changes in technical accounting literature, develops positions and present to management
•   Maintains awareness of accounting issues being considered by regulatory bodies and advises management of important matters
•   Ensures consistent application of accounting policies
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance / Business
•  Experience: 6+ years

Preferred Qualifications


•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Business Administration
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
•  Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
