Whether you’ve got deep experience in commercial real estate, skilled trades or technology, or you’re looking to apply your relevant experience to a new industry, join our team as we help shape a brighter way forward. </p><p></p><h1><b>Skilled Engineering Helper (IUOE Local 68)</b></h1><p><b>Location:</b> Harborside Plaza 2 & 3<br/>200 & 210 Hudson Street<br/>Jersey City, NJ</p><p><b>Schedule:</b> Monday – Friday | 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM</p><p><b>Estimated compensation</b>: $36.62/hr</p><div></div><p><b>Position Overview</b></p><p>Harborside Plaza 2 & 3 is seeking a dependable and mechanically skilled <b>Skilled Engineering Helper</b> to join our Building Engineering Department.</p><p>The Skilled Engineering Helper is an important member of the Engineering team and plays a key role in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of approximately <b>2 million square feet of Class A commercial office space</b>.</p><p>This position is designed to provide direct support to the Building Engineers and Chief Engineer by assisting with preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, tenant service requests, and daily building operations.</p><p></p><p>While the Engineering Helper will be assigned individual tasks and responsibilities, the primary focus of this position is to <b>support the Engineering staff, improve department efficiency, and contribute to the overall success of building operations</b>.</p><p></p><p>The ideal candidate is someone with strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and the desire to build a long-term career in commercial building engineering through IUOE Local 68.</p><div></div><p><b>Key Responsibilities</b></p><p>Working under the direction of the Chief Engineer and Building Engineers, the Skilled Engineering Helper will:</p><ul><li>Assist Building Engineers with the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building mechanical systems.</li><li>Perform assigned preventative maintenance tasks and routine building maintenance activities.</li><li>Complete individual work assignments as directed by Engineering Management.</li><li>Support engineers during equipment inspections, repairs, troubleshooting, and emergency response situations.</li><li>Assist with the operation and maintenance of:<ul><li>Air Handling Units (AHUs)</li><li>Fan-powered boxes</li><li>Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems</li><li>Pumps and motors</li><li>Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)</li><li>Cooling towers</li><li>Domestic water systems</li><li>Mechanical equipment and building infrastructure</li></ul></li><li>Replace filters, belts, bearings, lubricants, lighting components, and other routine maintenance items.</li><li>Assist with seasonal maintenance activities, equipment shutdowns, and scheduled building projects.</li><li>Deliver tools, materials, and equipment needed to support engineering work.</li><li>Maintain clean, organized, and safe mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and engineering workspaces.</li><li>Assist contractors and vendors performing work within the property.</li><li>Perform routine equipment inspections and report deficiencies, unusual conditions, or safety concerns to Engineering personnel.</li><li>Respond professionally to tenant service requests and assist with timely completion of work orders.</li><li>Maintain accurate records of completed work utilizing the building maintenance management system.</li><li>Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and building operating policies.</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Role Expectations</b></p><p>The Skilled Engineering Helper is expected to:</p><ul><li>Work collaboratively with Building Engineers and property operations staff.</li><li>Provide reliable support that allows engineers to focus on advanced troubleshooting, repairs, and critical building systems.</li><li>Complete assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and professionally.</li><li>Take ownership of assigned responsibilities while understanding that the primary purpose of the role is to support the Engineering Department as a whole.</li><li>Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with tenants, contractors, vendors, and fellow employees.</li><li>Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop technical skills through hands-on experience and union training.</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Qualifications</b></p><p>The successful candidate should possess:</p><ul><li>High school diploma or GED required.</li><li>Mechanical aptitude and interest in commercial building operations.</li><li>Previous experience in commercial maintenance, HVAC, el
