About the role

Overview

Vermont State Parks has a rare opening at our maintenance shop in Marshfield for a qualified maintenance technician. Incumbents perform skilled trades work involving construction, structural maintenance, and repair of buildings, grounds, and utilities such as water and sewage systems for approximately 3 developed state parks, and 4 remote parks. The use of a variety of construction and mechanical tools, small equipment and vehicles is typical. Lifting heavy weights (up to 75lbs.) is typical. Incumbent will be supervised by the Parks Regional Foreperson.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in shop and field settings both outdoors and inside buildings. Regular contact with members of the public is expected and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. Position requires possession of a valid driver's license. Some potential for physical injury may be present. Manual dexterity and strict adherence to safety precautions are needed to operate equipment and use tools. Some evening or overtime work may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH two (2) years or more of vocational training in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair AND one (1) year or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH two (2) years or more of work experience as a Park Ranger AND one (1) year or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

Special Requirements

Positions in this class require a valid driver’s license.

Some positions in this class require a valid Vermont Boating Safety Education Certificate

Positions in this class must acquire and maintain at least a 1B drinking water operator license within 6 months of hire.
