This role serves as the global strategic leader and principal-level subject matter expert for process automation across a chemical manufacturing network. The Global Process Automation Manager defines, governs, and deploys a unified automation strategy that strengthens process safety, reliability, product quality, and operational efficiency, while providing hands-on technical leadership for the design, implementation, optimization, and sustainment of DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, SIS, and OT infrastructure. Operating at both a strategic and technical execution level, this role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, EHS, IT/OT, and global site teams to ensure scalable, standardized, secure, and future‑ready automation systems across continuous, batch, and specialty chemical operations.
How You’ll Make an Impact
As the Global Process Automation Manager, you will set the vision, architecture, and governance for automation systems across the enterprise while serving as a trusted technical authority. In this role, you will:
- Develop and maintain a global process automation strategy aligned with continuous, batch, and specialty chemical manufacturing.
- Define and govern a unified automation architecture, including DCS/PLC platforms, SIS, industrial networks, historians, and OT data integration.
- Drive digitalization initiatives such as advanced process control (APC), predictive analytics, and condition monitoring to improve yield, reliability, and variability reduction.
- Serve as a recognized SME and principal engineer, leading technical design reviews, approving architecture, and guiding complex automation solutions.
- Establish and enforce global automation standards, engineering playbooks, and best practices, mentor and coach automation engineers across sites.
- Lead system design, implementation, FAT/SAT, commissioning, startup, and handover to operations, ensuring scalable and supportable solutions.
- Partner with EHS, Operations, and Engineering to ensure alignment with PSM, MOC, alarm management, and hazard mitigation requirements.
- Lead global modernization, migration, and lifecycle management efforts for legacy automation platforms.
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for high-risk or production-critical automation issues.
- Support operational excellence by improving process stability, reducing downtime, and optimizing throughput through APC and real-time optimization.
- Integrate automation systems with MES, LIMS, and ERP platforms to support traceability, compliance, and data-driven decision-making.
- Provide automation leadership for capital and expense projects, including scope development, estimates, schedules, execution strategies, and operational readiness.
- Champion functional safety lifecycle practices (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL) and strengthen OT cybersecurity posture in alignment with ISA/IEC 62443.
- Build and lead a global automation community of practice, fostering knowledge sharing and capability development.
- Manage automation program portfolios, investments, vendors, and system integrators while communicating risks, value, and progress to senior leadership.
Required Qualifications that Enable Your Success
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, Controls, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 10+ years of experience in industrial automation within chemical or process manufacturing environments.
- Proven experience leading multi-site or global automation standardization initiatives.
- Demonstrated success supporting capital projects, system migrations, and commissioning/startup activities.
- Strong background in process control, functional safety (LOPA/SIL), and OT system architecture.
- Expert-level knowledge of PLC, DC
