Job Summary

TOPS SCADAProvide technical support for computer Energy Management (EMS) Systems or Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and other technical infrastructure used in Transmission Operations centers. Position requires a high degree of adaptability, and a focus on meeting customer needs and continuous improvement in the systems supported.Protection and Control SCADAProvide some technical support Assist Protection and Control Engineering (PCE) SCADA Standards and Production activities related to AEP Transmission. Assist in areas of standards development, scoping, RTU setting creation, and implementation troubleshooting. A high ability to organize and coordinate customer needs will be required.

This position is responsible for drafting network model updates within AEP's source modeling system and the RTO modeling system, as necessary. The selected candidate will work with key stakeholders such as EMS, SCADA, and Project Management to ensure that any change to the network model is accurately modeled in both AEPs and the RTOs real time systems. Additionally, this position may be responsible for submitting network model updates to the RTO for their designated area based upon provided Outage Plans, Station One Lines, and other information. This position is key to ensuring that customer related projects are delivered on time and that the real-time operational model is accurate.

Note: We are considering candidates at two different grade levels. Candidates will be assessed and considered for the highest grade commensurate with their education, experience, and other knowledge, skills, & abilities.

What you'll do:

  • TOPS SCADA Entry level assistance providing support to problem resolution with Senior Level guidance.
  • Entry level understanding of specific equipment and software support activities. Maintain reliable operations of the DMS/ EMS and SCADA systems with Senior Level guidance.
  • Begin to make recommendations to improve the quality and reliability of DMS/ EMS and SCADA data and related services.
  • Entry Level assistance with maintaining real-time data interfaces with Senior Level Guidance. Begin to make recommendations to improve/implement DMS/ EMS and SCADA tools and software.
  • Entry level assistance with keeping DMS/ EMS and SCADA tools up-to-date with current technologies with Senior Level Guidance. Entry level ability to build and maintain custom DMS/EMS and SCADA one-line displays.
  • Entry level ability to perform modeling, check-out and commissioning of Remote Terminal Units with Senior Level Guidance.
  • Entry level ability to build and maintain DMS/EMS and SCADA models with Senior Level Guidance. Begin to understand and make recommendations to implement internal DMS/ EMS and SCADA standards.
  • Begin to develop understanding of Human Performance Initiative rules and Key Performance Indicators around SCADA processes.
  • Protection and Control SCADA Able to scope small / medium SCADA projects with limited supervision and able to provide detailed feedback on scoping questions to PCE / Telecom.
  • Able to identify issues with processes and tools and provide possible solutions and provide input to more seasoned personnel. Able to complete complex RPA with both new and legacy aspects. 
  • Completes RPA with limited supervision. Able to complete complex RTU configuration with both new and legacy aspects. 
  • Completes configuration with limited supervision. Beginning to expand communication technology competency to include legacy applications (Async, Sync, AEP, etc.) Able to support stakeholders with common SCADA related issues.
  • Able to complete alarm and basic I/O 2411 settings for both greenfield and brownfield projects with limited supervision.
  • Implements standards in appropriate measures with limited guidance from higher-level team members.
  • Assists higher level team members with overall SCADA compliance items.
  • Lead training activity as part of advancement for other team and group members under Transmission University (TU) initiative and training center progression training.

What we're looking for:

Grade 5:

  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college/university in Computer Science, Electrical
