THE ROLE

Sotheby's Client Strategy team develops and implements strategies around existing clients and gathers intelligence on key high net worth individuals to generate commercial opportunities. Working closely with senior client strategists and other areas of the business including Specialist Luxury Departments, Marketing, Business Intelligence, Special Events, and other key business units. The Junior Luxury Client Strategist will support business development efforts for the Luxury Division in the Americas, including Spirits, Sports Memorabilia, and Handbags & Accessories. Utilizing Sotheby's and external data, this role will focus on client cultivation with the goal of increasing the division's new client acquisition, improving existing client knowledge, sourcing business, and strategically targeting transactional opportunities.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support Senior Client Strategists & partner with Specialist Departments in the Luxury Division on the following initiatives -

  • Implement and lead strategic efforts to identify prospective buyers/sellers for auction and private sales
  • Support pre-sale targeting initiatives, including oversight of pre-sale outreach plans, creative brainstorming for top lots and research potential new bidders
  • Support post-sale activities including research for post-sale meetings, identifying key client opportunities, recording action points and deliverables to ensure business-getter follow through and promote client retention
  • Create PowerPoint presentations/project decks as required
  • Creation of team meeting briefs, family trees and high-level presentations to provide an overview of key families/clients
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of client information in CRM throughout the year.
  • Regularly create and maintain client lists on Excel and Google Sheets
  • Identify cross-category opportunities to promote Luxury Departments within the company and with senior business-getters
  • Play an active, strategic role in seated events, which may include creating the invitation list, researching attendees, drafting bios, alerting staff of predetermined clients of interest, and attending the event.

Client Prospecting and Research

  • Use available resources including media, Wealth-X, and Sotheby’s CRM to identify client opportunities
  • Regularly and systematically review Collector/Rich lists, including Forbes, ArtNews Top 200, real estate listings, and other media to ensure the accuracy of Sotheby’s existing client data and identify potential new clients

 

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum 3-5 years related auction or art market experience, or related experience in an analyst or project manager role in the luxury industry
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent analytical, research, and interpersonal skills and the ability to identify and drive growth opportunities
  • Effective at supporting change management; highly organized; and comfortable managing large amounts of evolving data
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, with excellent writing/editing skills
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and under pressure
  • Ability to think laterally and creatively
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to run basic stats and work through large quantities of data to analyze trends
  • Team player with a positive working rapport with colleagues
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with speed and efficiency
  • A deep understanding of Sotheby's or related digital platforms, tools, and technologies (including Microsoft Excel), and a passion for innovation on all fronts

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $55,000-$65,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certification
