Job Summary

The Crew Leader - Sanitation leads, supports, coordinates, and directs various crews in the performance of different tasks for the department. Support forestry and park maintenance operations, routine to complex street repair projects, and the operation and maintenance of lake spillway gates.

Overview

The Crew Leader - Sanitation leads, supports, coordinates, and directs various crews in the performance of different tasks for the department. Support forestry and park maintenance operations, routine to complex street repair projects, and the operation and maintenance of lake spillway gates.

Essential Functions

1 Organizes, prepares, and issues daily work assignments for crewmembers; coordinates and delegates work to ensure successful completion; provides leadership and direction to ensure safety and technical standards are followed.

2 Provides on-site job training and ensures proper, safe, and efficient work methods of crew members; resolves challenging issues and provides support for escalated incidents.

3 Ensures, checks, and performs preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and general equipment cleaning.

4 Operates a roto boom to collect bulky brush items set out by citizens in the City of Dallas

5 Handles and responds to citizens’ complaints or concerns to facilitate prompt and efficient solutions.

6 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of City policies and procedures.

2 Knowledge of how to operate and care of specialized equipment such as a roto boom.

3 Knowledge of standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic sign.

4 Ability to perform a variety of manual labor for extended period of time and in all types of weather conditions.

5 Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work with heavy equipment.

6 Ability to follow oral and written instructions, read charts, and maintain written records.

7 Ability to work in a fast paced environment with constant awareness and attention to detail of safety guidelines.

8 Ability to facilitate success of crews and personnel performing sanitation work throughout the City.

9 Communicating effectively and in writing.

10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

Transfer Station-

  • Three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment operation (e.g., wheeled loader, static boom, excavator).

OR

Disposal Fleet-

  • Three (3) years of experience operating truck & trailer combinations (Class A CDL).

AND

  • One (1) year of experience with leadwork/supervisory responsibilities. (This experience may be included in the experience above.)

EQUIVALENCIES: 

Transfer Station-

  • Two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., wheeled loader, static boom, excavator) in a waste management environment including one (1) year of experience with lead work/supervisory responsibilities will meet the experience requirements.

Disposal Fleet-

  • Two (2) years of experience performing bulk waste hauling (class A CDL) including one (1) year of experience with lead work/supervisory responsibilities will meet the experience requirements.

LICENSE:

Transfer Station-

  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Disposal Fleet-

  • Valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) and a good driving record.

  • Applicants with a Class A CDL issued by a state other than Texas, must obtain a Texas Class A CDL within sixty (60) days of appointment.
