St. Joseph’s College of (SJCON) is seeking a full-time financial aid coordinator.

The Financial Aid Coordinator will effectively coordinate the successful operation of all financial aid and scholarship programs with the College of Nursing and assist with various student financial programs to support students and families with financial matters as it relates to their education.

St. Joseph’s College of (SJCON) is seeking a full time financial aid coordinator. The offers a single purpose, hospital-based, Associate in Applied Science Degree with a major in Nursing.  SJCON offers several program options and timeframes to allow students to pursue both an Associate and Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Both options offer a dual degree pathway established through a partnership with Le Moyne College (LMC).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial aid counseling to students and families
  • Conducts need analysis, federal verification, packages aid, certifies federal and state grant eligibility, make professional judgment decisions
  • Program management for loans, grants, veteran’s benefits, scholarships/institutional grants, systems support, and consumer information
  • Interacts with federal and state agencies, lenders, employers, vendors, social service agencies, and post-secondary institutions
  • Keep abreast of all federal and state financial aid regulations (US Dept. of Education, New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, New York State Department of Education) safeguarding the institution’s eligibility to participate in Title IV and state programs
  • Communicate regularly with St Joseph’s Hospital accounting department
  • Compiles periodic reports (granting agencies, administration, external auditors, accrediting agencies) to comply with program eligibility and reporting requirements and to demonstrate need for additional funding
  • Administer and certify awards from New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), Aid to Part-time Study, and Part-time TAP through HESC
  • Completes enrollment reporting via NSLDS
  • Skills in operating various software/databases, such as but not limited to, EdConnect, COD, EdExpress, ELMOne
  • Reconciles student aid on a regular basis for compliance
  • Calculates cost for education (tuition, room/ board, books, fees, etc.)
  • Knowledge with query/report building; proficiency in Excel preferred.
  • Resolves data conflicts and over awards
  • Monitors and evaluates satisfactory academic progress of students
  • Conduct entrance interviews
  • Conduct exit interviews with graduating/ withdrawing students
  • Provide guidance to students seeking alternative student loans
  • Work closely with Bursar on disbursements
  • Participates in student orientation and open houses
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure:

  • B.S. Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field preferred. AAS degree in appropriate discipline with progressive experience in the field will be considered.
  • Minimum of one- or two-years progressive healthcare or financial analysis experience preferred.
  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.  

Special Equipment, skills, and other requirements:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal, motivational, and conflict resolution skills. Strong participatory management, team building and administrative skills. Broad based knowledge of related regulatory compliance requirements. Ability to work independently is a must.
