Editorial Director, Fortune Brainstorm Tech 

The Editorial Director, Fortune Brainstorm Tech will take a leading role in shaping one of Fortune’s flagship membership communities. Started in 2000, Brainstorm Tech has grown into a series of must-attend business gatherings for the finance and technology industries. 

This is a unique role best suited for someone with extensive journalism experience, a deep rolodex of executive-level sources and A-listers, creativity, and the desire to build engaging, innovative experiences for members to learn and network. This role will involve:   

• Curating the content, speakers, and attendees for must-attend conferences around the world  
• Serving as event host and emcee, moderating interviews and panels 
• Ensuring main stage and concurrent Live Media sessions are thoughtful, relevant, and journalistically aligned  
• Engaging and building the communities around these events and at other touchpoints through the year  
• Collaborating with editorial and conference team colleagues to build compelling, well-choreographed events 
• Ideating and developing opportunities to build out the franchise, finding synergies with our journalism, with relevant content on our various platforms, such as our website, print magazine, social and video channels, and newsletters 
• Interviewing key players for a column, a video series, and/or newsletters 
• Curating and editing one or more lists 

Primary responsibilities: 

• Act as a collaborative partner working across our editorial, conference, sales, and business leads and units with ease to build out must-follow coverage, must-attend conferences, and a must-join membership community 
• Host additional events, like dinners and fireside chats, through the year 
• Conduct engrossing interviews for print, online, video, and live media environments  
• Opportunity to write cover stories and features for print and online as assigned 
• Help assign stories from interviews and events to junior writers in the newsroom to build out evergreen CEO coverage and membership event highlights/reports 
• Work with tech/product to create a specialized section of Fortune.com for the Brainstorm community featuring relevant content and community tools 
• Increase engagement, attendance, sponsorship, and revenue for the Brainstorm franchise year over year 

Qualifications: 

• 10 or more years of experience in journalism and interviewing, with an emphasis on live events, television, or radio  
• Strong network of executives and key players in the tech world and other key industries 
• Knowledge and interest in tech, global business, purpose-led companies and leaders, and economic issues 
• Creative thinker and curator of ideas 
• Strong sense of the topics that matter—and should matter—to global companies and leaders 
• Superior communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across functions and departments regardless of reporting lines 
• Effective writing skills, a record of journalistic integrity, and an eye for compelling content, both written and live media 
• High energy, entrepreneurialism, and penchant for networking and being the face of the brand 

Location: Strong preference for this role to be based in New York or San Francisco.

Salary Range: 

Base salary: $180,000 - $265,000
