The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Senior Research Engineer-Vacuum Process Design focus, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Effectively operating as a critical member of a multidisciplinary technology development team

• Designing and implementing state-of-the-art vacuum process equipment

• Identifying and developing new vacuum process technologies through experimentation and driving their implementation to impact 3M

• Effectively documenting, communicating, and disseminating research results to team members, business partners, and technology stakeholders

• Driving successful technology scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing and assisting with troubleshooting process and product quality issues

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline, completed and verified prior to start from an accredited university.

• Two (2) or more years of industrial experience with CAD software and equipment installation

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• BS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or related discipline from an accredited institution

• 5+ years’ industrial experience with CAD software and equipment installation

• Demonstrated experience designing and installing complex process equipment

• Experience with plasma and vapor deposition equipment

• Experience with statistically designed experiments and communicating results to multidisciplinary teams

• Inquisitive, able to work well with others as part of new process technology/product development, comfortable working in a highly technical environment

Work location:

• 3M Center, Maplewood, MN

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $122,292 - $149,468, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
