Job Description
LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking an HVAC Technician to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with installing, maintaining, and integrating systems within the National Airspace System (NAS). This role requires extensive travel across the U.S. and focuses on sustainment of over 120 radar systems including ARSR-4, CARSR, and FPS radars. Candidates will be responsible for the transportation, installation, maintenance, and repair of mobile commercial HVAC units, ensuring optimal performance at various facility locations across the U.S. The candidate will transport units up to 25 tons, install temporary supply and return ducting, connect thermostats, and conduct startup checks to verify proper cooling functionality. They will perform both scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, service, and repair HVAC units in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and FAA operation and maintenance standards.
In addition to HVAC responsibilities, the candidate will inspect and maintain the trailers used for transporting HVAC units, ensuring roadworthiness and DOT compliance. This includes repairs to trailer components such as lighting, tires, wheel bearings, axles, decking, and hitches, along with basic carpentry and corrosion control as needed.
This role supports the Federal Aviation Administration, which is responsible for ensuring the safety of 45,000 flights and 3 million passengers traversing over 28 million miles of U.S. controlled airspace every day. In addition to providing air traffic control and safety oversight for civilian aviation, the FAA also works in lockstep with the Department of Defense and other government agencies to ensure the security of our nation. A key component of that coordination involves the collaborative use of aviation tools and data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the transportation, installation, maintenance, and repair of mobile commercial HVAC units, ensuring optimal performance at various facility locations across the U.S.
- Transporting units up to 25 tons, installing temporary supply and return ducting, connecting thermostats, and conducting startup checks to verify proper cooling functionality.
- Performing both scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing HVAC units in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and FAA operation and maintenance standards.
- Properly documenting all maintenance and repairs and performing operational checks before and after deployment
- Inspecting and maintaining the trailers used for transporting HVAC units, ensuring roadworthiness and DOT compliance.
- Repairing to trailer components such as lighting, tires, wheel bearings, axles, decking, and hitches, along with basic carpentry and corrosion control as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years' experience maintaining commercial HVAC units
- Hold a current valid DOT driver's license
- Hold a current EPA license to purchase freon
- Ability to oversee the installation, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of electronic systems across various operational sites
- Ability to prepare and coordinate technical documentation, including design updates and compliance reports.
- Ability to travel extensively across the U.S. for extended periods.
Preferred:
- FAA or other federal agency HVAC work experience, especially at remote FAA facilities.
- Experience with mobile HVAC units.
- Knowledge of FAA operational environments.
- Experience with FAA ARSR-4, CARSR, and FPS radars or other radar systems a plus.
Additional Information:
- Must be eligible to obtain necessary clearances to work, including FAA suitability and U.S. Government public trust clearance.
- Clean driving record required and willingness to provide a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) upon request
- Significant travel required within the US.
- Must be able to lift 75+ lbs, climb work ladders, use portable power tools, and work in varied weather and terrain conditions.
