Library Assistants in public services areas are responsible for service desk (circulation/reserves and information), some training and directing the work of library clerks, students and part-time staff, and the maintenance of records and files established in libraries to govern the acquisition, organization, and 30 reservation and circulation of collections.Job Description
Responsibilities:
Process library materials and requests; locate bibliographic records in cataloging module, add and update holdings records, and collect & report statistics relating to processing. Retrieve and refile materials, and perform routine inventory maintenance of accessioned material.
Oversee stacks maintenance, assist in maintaining circulation services.
Provide customer service to all patrons.
Vacuum, wipe or otherwise clean materials as necessary.
Maintain mailroom, sorting room and loading dock areas that are used for mail/package handling; sort mail and packages for pickup or delivery; receive and sign for mail and packages.
Assist in training and supervising students.
Open or close the library as appropriate.
Setup and breakdown for special events.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED and 1 -2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
Demonstrated skills in working with bibliographic records developed through a combination of experience and training.
Actual experience in bibliographic work and the ability to work independently.
Attention to detail and dependability.
