Position Specific Description

The Senior Legal Assistant will support six attorneys in day-to-day practice area needs; with a heavy focus in real estate related matters.

 

The employee in this position will:

  • Calendar and monitor critical dates, advising supervising attorney of upcoming critical dates
  • Process and record agreements generated by the real estate law group in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Liaison with FPL Corporate Real Estate, Development and Power Delivery Business Units
  • Liaison with escrow agents and title agents
  • Timely distribute to clients relevant due diligence documents and materials
  • Assist real estate attorneys drafting and revising routine real estate templates; including easements, assignments, license agreements, leases and correspondence for client ready production
  • Establish and maintain electronic closing binders and coordinate real estate records retention, in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • General administrative support for a team of attorneys; including but not limited to time entry, travel, calendar events, mailings, overnight letters and deliveries, coordinate eminent domain board approvals, governmental compliance filings and record retention, manage electric utility franchise database, etc.

Under attorney supervision:

  • Drafts and edits legal documents based on edits and input from in-house  attorneys
  • Participates in special projects or activities related to the legal discipline being supported  

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong computer skills - proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, WorkShare Compare, iManage
  • Knowledge of legal terminology
  • Experience with various real property documents
  • Support experience in law firm or in-house legal department a plus
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, work under pressure, handle multiple tasks and meet numerous deadlines
  • Understand office procedures and practices
  • Requires proofreading and editing for spelling and grammar
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, supporting and working with a team of attorneys
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with internal management and staff at all levels
