World Relief seeks a Bilingual Staff Attorney or DOJ Representative for the Immigrant Legal Services (ILS) Asylum Legal Clinic (ALC). This position will primarily counsel and represent immigrants seeking affirmative asylum and other benefits.

Role & Responsibilities

• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Legally screen and advise individuals regarding immigration benefits and remedies available under the INA, CFR, and relevant government agency policies.
• Prepare immigration applications and other forms and write legal briefs, sign G-28s/E-61s, and follow-up as needed.
• Conduct legal research and writing for asylum matters.
• Represent clients in person at USCIS asylum adjudication interviews and before ICE/EOIR as needed.
• Zealously advocate for clients with relevant government actors via telephone and correspondence.
• Represent an appropriate case load as determined by ALC and client demands under the supervision of the ALC’s Managing Attorney.
• Comply with WRC ILS best practice case management rules, policies and procedures and legal ethics under the supervision of the Managing Attorney.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Cross-cultural experience including cross-cultural communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and flexibility to work in a frequently changing environment.
• Strong self-starter skills and a desire to learn and grow.
• Strong public speaking skills preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in immigration law preferred.

• Committed to investing in a strong World Relief Chicagoland Immigrant Legal Services Asylum Legal Clinic.
• Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish required and/or an additional language.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and commitment to attending CLE trainings and maintaining good standing with the state bar;
• OR
• Commitment to pursuing DOJ Accreditation within one year of employment, combined with excellent demonstrated persuasive writing skills.
