Department Overview
The mission of the Operations Systems Group within the Electric Grid Operations Department is to provide comprehensive engineering solutions to improve transmission system reliability and enable future growth of the Electric Transmission Grid. In addition, the Group provides outstanding engineering support to Operations by resolving complex issues via implementation of state of the art technology. This position is in the EMS (Energy Management System) Operations team within the Operations Systems group in Electric Grid Operations. The Operations Systems group provides technical support for Electric Grid Operations. EMS Operations provides operational, engineering, and project management support for the EMS platform as well as support for the technologies used by the Grid Control Centers. The EMS team provides 24-hour rotational EMS support for PG&E Grid Operations.
Position Summary
The Operations Systems Engineer, Senior, will report to the Supervisor, Operations Systems Engineer and be a member of the EMS Display/Integration team. This group consists of EMS Engineers who provide operational support of tools utilized by Electric Grid Operations (EGO) and Transmission Operations Engineering (TOE). Coordinate with EMS major project leads. Participate in strategic planning and engineering analysis on EMS infrastructure. Work with program managers and partner with other departments (i.e. IT, System Automation) for their support in completing critical work, managing system performance and controlling costs.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $114,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $148,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $182,000.00
- Minimum Base Salary (California) $108,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (California) $141,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (California) $173,000.00
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day maintenance activities for EMS
- Perform troubleshooting tasks for all systems.
- Support project tasks as assigned.
- Support all NERC CIP related activities including system testing and documentation. Provide Subject Matter Expertise and participate in NERC audits and interviews.
- Responsible for identifying and addressing gaps in EMS processes.
- Interact with customers for the change of EMS displays to meet the business need.
- Assist in the development and operationalization of procedures and ensure compliance with applicable NERC Standards.
- Provide support to EMS Operations including EMS On-Call duties as needed.
- Support system integration and ICCP activities.
- Determines cost effective and practical solutions; troubleshoots and resolves moderately complex operational and/or design assignments.
- Provides post-event analysis of events such as software or hardware failures, data loss, communications failures, etc.
- Works with system vendors, contractors, internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and implement solutions.
- Document processes and technical specifications.
- Support the development and implementation of new system concepts based on end user needs and input from vendors.
- Coordinates and performs activities required for metadata model updates, patches, upgrades, hardware, software, configuration changes, etc.
- Designs and implements custom EMS system software and scripts to provide custom functionality as needed.
- Assist in the development and operationalization of procedures and ensure compliance with applicable NERC Standards.
- Leading and providing expert guidance on multiple complex projects simultaneously.
