The Department of Inflammation Research is seeking a dedicated, driven and independent Senior Scientist to join the In Vivo Pharmacology (IVP) group as part of a fast-paced, integrated and interactive research group exploring therapeutics for Inflammation, Autoimmune, and Rare Disease programs. In this vital role you will be responsible for designing and executing experiments exploring and understanding the pharmacology of drug targets; generating, communicating pharmacology and preclinical data to support the progression of research projects, and providing technical expertise to therapeutic area scientists. This role has the potential for managing up to one report initially, contribution to project teams, collaboration with therapeutic area scientists and teams at multiple Amgen sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a scientist/associate scientist direct report.
  • Oversee the design, execution and data analysis of cutting-edge research and in vivo pharmacology experiments contributing to Amgen’s Inflammation TA research pipeline.
  • Utilize in vivo pharmacology and animal models to validate and accelerate molecules through the research pipeline.
  • Inform, collaborate, and communicate in vivo strategy with therapeutic area (TA) scientists to align with project goals.
  • Oversight of study data quality and analysis from group.
  • Present results at internal meetings and external conferences.
  • Publish experimental findings.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree PhD OR PharmD OR MD [and relevant post-doc where applicable] in Immunology, inflammation autoimmune disease, or related disciplines.

Or

Master’s degree and 3 years of · Immunology, inflammation autoimmune disease, or related experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of ·Immunology, inflammation autoimmune disease, or related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree and post-doctoral training (or drug discovery experience) in the fields of Immunology, inflammation autoimmune disease, or related disciplines.
  • Willingness and curiosity to learn and explore new areas of research.
  • Significant hands-on expertise in animal (mouse and rat) handling and in vivo techniques (i.v., i.p., p.o., i.d., s.c., i.t., bleeds, necropsy) preferred.
  • Experience designing and executing in vivo preclinical inflammation and autoimmune disease models. Experience with colitis (DSS, CD45RBhi T cell transfer, IL-10 KO), lupus (NZB/W, MRL-lpr, Imiquimod), and arthritis (CIA, CAIA) models preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in cellular, biochemical, histological, and molecular biology assay techniques (i.e. ELISA, MSD, multi-color flow cytometry, quantitative RT-PCR) preferred.
  • Computer literacy, especially proficiency with GraphPad Prism, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills, accurate & timely record keeping and data analysis are essential.
  • Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement.
  • Demonstrated experience in pharmacology and in vivo models of inflammation/Immunology.
  • Ability to work in a flexible team-oriented environment.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
