Job Summary: Responsible for planning, organizing and directing the overall operations of the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all age groups of patients ranging from newborn to elderly. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assures competency of all personnel. Participates in formulating the budget. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all CMS, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with hospital administration on planning, organizing and directing Diagnostic Imaging operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
- Makes daily rounds in Diagnostic Imaging to ensure cost-effective and high-quality radiology services, appropriate utilization of personnel and supplies and a general ethical and professional atmosphere.
- Expected to perform patient care and work alongside radiology staff on a part-time basis and as workload allows, as determined through collaboration between Director of Diagnostic Imaging and Chief Ancillary Officer.
- Secures and maintains the physical facilities, equipment and supplies which are required to carry out effective patient care and create an optimal physical environment.
- Carries on continuous analysis, valuation and audit of Diagnostic Imaging.
- Initiates and actuates improved methods of Diagnostic Imaging to meet patient and market needs and oversees their implementation.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians/providers, staff and administration.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family. Consults with the interdisciplinary team, as appropriate, to collaborate patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Ensures that the staff technologists are not allowed to perform independent fluoroscopic examinations.
- Delegates authority and responsibility to the Diagnostic Imaging personnel.
- Establishes and maintains standards of performance and ensures these standards are met by all clinicians.
- Directs and participates in the human resource management function for the department by coordinating the selection, promotion, onboarding, retention, and performance appraisal processes.
- Promotes effective intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.
- Initiates, interprets and enforces Diagnostic Imaging procedures and maintains and interprets hospital policies and procedures.
- Attends and participates in hospital committees, as assigned.
- Is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement and QI activities.
- Provides staff education with an emphasis on the organizational performance quality improvement program.
- Ensures there is adequate storage for supplies and equipment.
- Promotes and advances Hospital-community relationships.
- Ensures appropriate preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, special needs, geriatric and general population.
Requirements
Regulatory Requirements:
- High School graduate; BS degree preferred
- Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- Licensed by the KS State Board of Healing Arts (LRT)
- Current BLS (CPR) certification
- Background in Diagnostic Imaging leadership; experience such as Supervisor or Assistant Director of a Diagnostic Imaging department preferred.
- At least five (5) active years in a department with diagnostic and special procedures experience
