Sutro Biopharma, Inc. is looking for an energetic and talented Sr. Director, FP&A, who will partner closely with Finance and the department heads to help execute their mission and associated financial plans by supporting investment prioritization and optimal resourcing. As an individual contributor reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will drive financial planning processes, provide strategic direction, and generate insights and reporting, lead process improvement initiatives, manage risks and opportunities, and assist in scenario planning and resource management, including interfacing with the Board of Directors and Audit Committee.
Responsibilities
- Establish strong business partnerships with department stakeholders to provide comprehensive financial support and strategic thinking in developing department financial plans, including annual budgets, quarterly rolling forecasts, and long-range plans
- Conduct financial and resource modeling to support tactical and strategic decision making
- Identify and analyze variances to budget, forecast, and prior year expenses; proactively identify opportunities for improvement
- Closely manage resource spending to ensure alignment with budget
- Drive the development of meaningful financial insights and create effective presentations to communicate conclusions and recommendations for the Board and SMT
- Lead, execute or support various ad hoc projects/initiatives within Finance
- Highly self-motivated and capable of working successfully within a team environment
- Strong business partnership skills: ability to build rapport and credibility, and to effectively interact with various management levels across all functional areas
- Business savvy with strong financial acumen and refined problem-solving, analytical and communication skills

- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, troubleshoot, think critically, and interpret and provide insights on financial data
Qualifications:
15+ years of experience in financial planning & analysis with BS/BA, experience in public biotech companies; CPA or MBA
Strong familiarity with system-based financial planning platforms
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint with familiarity of ERP systems
