About the role

Sutro Biopharma, Inc. is looking for an energetic and talented Sr. Director, FP&A, who will partner closely with Finance and the department heads to help execute their mission and associated financial plans by supporting investment prioritization and optimal resourcing. As an individual contributor reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will drive financial planning processes, provide strategic direction, and generate insights and reporting, lead process improvement initiatives, manage risks and opportunities, and assist in scenario planning and resource management, including interfacing with the Board of Directors and Audit Committee.

Responsibilities

Establish strong business partnerships with department stakeholders to provide comprehensive financial support and strategic thinking in developing department financial plans, including annual budgets, quarterly rolling forecasts, and long-range plans
Conduct financial and resource modeling to support tactical and strategic decision making
Identify and analyze variances to budget, forecast, and prior year expenses; proactively identify opportunities for improvement
Closely manage resource spending to ensure alignment with budget
Drive the development of meaningful financial insights and create effective presentations to communicate conclusions and recommendations for the Board and SMT
Lead, execute or support various ad hoc projects/initiatives within Finance

Qualifications:

15+ years of experience in financial planning & analysis with BS/BA, experience in public biotech companies; CPA or MBA

Strong familiarity with system-based financial planning platforms

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint with familiarity of ERP systems

The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this role at Sutro Biopharma’s California based locations will be $270,000 - $305,000 (not including bonus, equity, and benefits). The base salary offered will vary depending on the market, job-related knowledge, skills and capabilities, and experience.
