US Credit NY Health Care & Middle Market

The Senior Credit Officer (SCO) manages an efficient underwriting and approval process for Commercial and Industrial (Middle Market) and Healthcare loans. 

In this position, you will:

 

  • Reports directly to the Chief Credit Officer
  • Provides support and guidance to lending departments with credit target markets related to industries, concentrations, loan structuring and terms and conditions. 
  • Provides feedback on a constructive basis to maintain a collaborative relationship between credit and lending.
  • Participates in screening loans prior to issuance of Term Sheets by the Line of Business. Ensures all analyses and the presentation materials meet the credit guidelines and quality standards.
  • Evaluates and recommends Risk Acceptance Criterias and Credit policies.  
  • Responsible for supporting growth while minimizing delinquency, non-performing loans and charge-offs. 
  • Manages the annual Financial Update process and ascertains risk rating accuracy.  Solid understanding of risk ratings.  
  • The SCO will be provided with a delegated loan approval authority. 
  • Presents new transactions to the Commercial Credit Committee. 
  • Pro-actively identifies loans that should be referred to the Special Assets Unit.
  • Provides guidance to the Special Assets unit regarding action plans for workout cases.  
  • Serves as a liaison between Team and internal, external auditors and compliance. 
  • Ensures compliance with the Bank’s lending policies, procedures and guidelines 
  • Knowledge of commercial and consumer banking laws and regulations; Commercial products and services
  • The SCO will be expected to personally meet with our most important customers/borrowers. 
  • The SCO will play an important role in the due diligence process when Popular evaluates acquisitions of portfolios
  • Reviews and signs all credit presentations and requests which are produced within her/his team prior to approval by appropriate authority.  The SCO is also responsible for approving deals within his or her authority. 


Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; setting clear goals and appraising performance on a timely basis.  Maintaining high morale, performance and motivation for the unit.  


Credit Approval and Underwriting:
Manages the Credit Supervisor and the Credit underwriting Unit. 

  • Assigns and monitors credit team workflow and ensures deadlines of the credit team are met and actively managing credit team workflow and addressing/resolving issues such as bottlenecks or missed deadlines.
  • Establish and manage priorities to ensure the effective and efficient accomplishment of the Team’s underwriting responsibilities.

To be considered, you will need:


Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance or Accounting from a four year college or university; and at least ten years of commercial credit approval experience. Relevant experience with Health Care and Middle Market segments. Solid exposure to the financing of business acquisitions. Loan Participations and syndications. Commercial real estate credit experience a plus.
