The Construction Safety Representative will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of workers and compliance with all applicable regulations on construction sites. The ideal candidate will have experience enforcing safety policies, conducting safety inspections, and providing safety training. This role focuses on daily on-site safety management, with a strong emphasis on the EM 385-1-1 standards and OSHA regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Site Safety Monitoring:
- Oversee day-to-day safety activities on the construction site, ensuring compliance with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA 29 CFR 1926 regulations.
- Monitor workers and subcontractors to ensure all safety practices and procedures are followed.
- Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, and daily safety audits to promote a safe work environment.
- Safety Inspections & Hazard Identification:
- Perform regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Ensure that proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is used and that all safety protocols are strictly adhered to.
- Report any unsafe conditions, behaviors, or hazards to the Safety Manager and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Compliance with Safety Plans:
- Assist in the implementation of the site-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA).
- Ensure all workers and subcontractors understand and follow the safety requirements outlined in the APP and AHAs.
- Maintain all safety-related records, such as inspection checklists, incident reports, and safety meeting documentation.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting:
- Assist in investigating any workplace accidents, injuries, or near misses, documenting findings, and preparing reports.
- Participate in root cause analysis and help develop corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents to the Safety Manager and regulatory bodies as required.
- Safety Training & Education:
- Conduct safety orientations for new hires and subcontractors, ensuring they understand the project’s safety protocols and procedures.
- Lead ongoing safety training sessions, including specialized training on topics such as fall protection, confined space entry, and equipment safety.
- Stay current with safety regulations and practices, and ensure that the site complies with all updates to EM 385 and OSHA standards.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with the Safety Manager, Project Managers, and other site personnel to ensure all safety issues are communicated and addressed promptly.
- Assist in coordinating emergency drills and ensure that workers are trained in emergency response procedures.
