Histology Team Lead

**Pay Range: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data. 

Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 10pm - 6:30am, additional hours may be required depending on business needs.

Shift: 3rd, this position is eligible for a shift differential

Job Responsibilities

• Work involves coordinating the work of other Technologist and Technicians.
• In addition to performing the functions of Senior Technologist/Technician, this level is responsible for assigning and reviewing work, administering the quality control program, ensuring that schedule time frames are met, advising management of problem areas, assisting in employee actions, acting as liaison with other departments and customers on technical inquiries and test results.
• Assist supervisor in reporting, billing, interviewing, and management tasks.
• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care 
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures  
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Requirements

• Associates in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements – Bachelor’s degree is a plus  
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications are preferred  
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Histotechnician/Histotechnologist  
• Prior supervisory or leadership experience is a plus 
• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment 
• Immunohistochemistry experience is a plus 
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens 
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment is desirable 
• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office 
• Strong communication skills; both written and verbal 
• High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
