Data is a strategic asset in Cruise and is massively important in helping drive engineering, product and business decisions. The Data Engineering team is at the heart of this strategic asset helping build and scale critical data products that help drive business decisions. As Cruise is heading up to commercialization and scaling, we are looking for an experienced engineering leader to drive the strategy and execution of the Data Engineering roadmap.
As a Senior Manager of this team, you will lead, manage and grow the org responsible for Data Engineering. You will define and lead the team’s strategic roadmap, while staffing the investments effectively to execute on the plan. This will require innovations in tools, automation and platforms that are needed to scale in an efficient and self-serve way. Cruise is highly multi-functional - you will work closely with senior leaders in Data Science, Data Infra, Commercial Operations etc., to align our goals and priorities, work with the engineering teams to create the next generation Data Engineering systems that will scale the company’s momentum to a full-fledged, driverless AV deployment across the world.
What you’ll be doing:

Growing and developing multiple teams of data engineers and managers with diverse technical backgrounds

Drive technical planning, vision setting and establishing scalable processes for execution to support the various partners needs

Designing and implementing a data solutions service model for various cross functional partners

Partnering with Data Science, Product Engineering, and Machine Learning Infrastructure teams to optimize data pipelines

Ensure org health and structure are optimal for smooth engineering execution as well as maintaining a healthy team culture.

Build and retain world-class Data Engineering teams through hiring, mentorship and career development.
What you must have:

MS in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent experience

12+ years of professional experience with 5+ years managing teams of 15+ Data Engineers

Prior experience managing, leading, and growing multiple teams and building strong organizations in a fast-paced environment

Proven track record of shipping production-quality software for critical or complex software products by investing in strong software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes

Experience building production data engineering systems that process large amounts of data, consisting of distributed streaming and batch compute processing

Experience with and expert-level knowledge of the major data processing and orchestration toolsets, eg. Kafka, Airflow, Spark, Dataflow, BigQuery

Demonstrated experience thinking strategically with analytical and problem-solving experience

Deep experience in thinking with a customer first attitude and influencing multi-functional leadership teams
The salary range for this position is $200,000 - 294,100. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
