SR. FINANCIAL REPORTING ACCOUNTANT

IMT Insurance is hiring for the role of Sr. Financial Reporting Accountant to join our Accounting team. This position is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements and regulatory filings in accordance with statutory accounts principles (SAP) and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Prepare worksheets in support of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules for regulatory filings.
  • Perform detailed accounting and analysis for reinsurance agreements
  • Reconcile reinsurance-related accounts, ensuring accuracy of premiums, claims, and recoverables.
  • Partner with actuarial, claims, and third-party reinsurance brokers to ensure accuracy of reinsurance data and reporting.
  • Prepare and file premium tax forms and other state required forms.
  • Prepare budget reports and periodic forecasts.
  • Analyze budget variances and provide explanations for management review.
  • Partner with department leaders to refine budget proposals
  • Prepare budget presentations for senior management
  • Assist with preparation of management reports and financial analysis to support business decisions.
  • Perform regular self-reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness of work prior to submission.
  • Peer review of supplemental journal entries.
  • Monitor and interpret new accounting standards and regulatory guidance; assess impact and implement changes as necessary.
  • Support external auditors by providing requested information and explanations.
  • Works under minimal supervision, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Perform a variety of complicated tasks.
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting.
  • Support ad hoc projects and analyses as needed.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An Accounting or Finance degree with 4+ years accounting experience is needed to perform essential functions of the position.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of all financial operations and processes.
  • Recognize and provide analysis of unusual results as well as work with other parties for resolution.
  • Develop new worksheets and reports using available financial tools and software.
  • Experience with GAAP and insurance statutory accounting, preferably in property and casualty.
  • Ability to understand and resolve insurance statutory accounting issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and other financial software tools.
  • Must be very detail oriented while maintaining accuracy.
  • Must possess the ability to work well with others.
