About the role
About this opportunity :
The Senior Director is responsible for coordinating the analytical testing requirements to support research and development projects primarily focused on oligonucleotides.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise/manage ≥5 staff
- Analyze and review project data, correct errors, and report results for multiple projects to support research and development primarily focused on oligonucleotides
- Author and approve scientific and regulatory documentation for development, qualification, verification, validation, and transfer of analytical methods
- Plan, track, and execute tasks to deliver department results on time
- Monitor laboratory compliance
- Provide professional scientific leadership in all internal and external interactions
- Plan, execute, and coordinate department training activities
- Recruit and interview candidates; implement hiring, improvement plans, and promotions.
- Develop and lead inter-department objectives for continuous improvement and technical excellence
- Exercises latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments and empowers others in the department appropriately
- Communicate with clients and directly resolve issues
- Promote Avecia analytical services to oligonucleotide industry
- Approve department purchases and expense reports, request capital purchases
- Create and present department budget to leadership
- Organize people and equipment resources needed to meet project timelines
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety procedures
- Create department strategic plan, advise on Avecia strategic plan
- Approve AD continuous improvement activities
- Mediate all personnel conflicts and promote a positive work atmosphere
Required Skills/Abilities:
- BA/BS with 20+ yrs. of related experience
- MS with 15+ yrs. of related experience
- PhD with 12+ yrs. of related experience
- Analytical chemistry knowledge including theory and application of fundamental analytical techniques for identification, purity, and assay of multiple analytes
- Communicate vision of future and strategic plans
- Identify and positively influence department culture
- Knowledge of application of chemistry and oligonucleotide knowledge to method development and solving complex problems
- Competency to think strategically and conceptually to apply quality by design principles across the department
- Knowledge of industry standards for quality and regulatory compliance
- Select vendors and candidates for method development and validation
- Ensure SOPs are updated to improve efficiency and regulatory compliance
- Advance the department knowledge and application of oligonucleotide knowledge, best practices for method development, and industry standards for quality and regulatory compliance
- Proficient in technical and business writing and presentations
- Strategic reasoning to evaluate and improve productivity of department systems
- Improve effectiveness of department spending and resource usage
- Implement system changes to increase productivity and reduce costs
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to fairly respond to concerns of members of AD, other departments, and clients.
