Managing Counsel – Global Construction – Arizona
Lucid Motors is seeking a highly qualified senior attorney, resident in Arizona, to join the Real Estate and Construction Legal team as Managing Counsel. This person will report to the Associate General Counsel - Global Real Estate and Construction and will manage global construction-related legal matters for the company. The attorney will support in-house business teams in manufacturing, facilities and retail development. The attorney will collaborate with other members of the real estate and construction legal team and the overall legal department to support the growth of the company.
Managing Counsel – Global Construction – Arizona
Lucid Motors is seeking a highly qualified senior attorney, resident in Arizona, to join the Real Estate and Construction Legal team as Managing Counsel. This person will report to the Associate General Counsel - Global Real Estate and Construction and will manage global construction-related legal matters for the company. The attorney will support in-house business teams in manufacturing, facilities and retail development. The attorney will collaborate with other members of the real estate and construction legal team and the overall legal department to support the growth of the company.
The Role:
- Manage all construction-related legal matters for Lucid globally.
- Draft and negotiate all manner of construction-related agreements including construction and design agreements for manufacturing, facilities and retail development.
- Create processes and templates for global design and construction agreements, including construction services agreements, design services agreements, and jurisdiction-specific addenda.
- Travel internationally to support business teams in drafting and negotiation of design construction contracts and to ensure third-party compliance with such contracts.
- Visit Lucid construction sites to ensure progress consistent with contractual rights and obligations and adherence with Lucid safety protocols.
- Work with Lucid risk management on insurance issues related to construction projects and construction contracts.
- Assist with legal training (including issues related to other legal areas) of Lucid employees at global sites.
- Assist Lucid litigation counsel on construction and design-related claims, including engaging and working with outside experts and consultants.
- Oversee processing, handling and resolution of construction pre-lien documents and liens.
- Work with Lucid policy team to secure incentives related to construction projects and contracts.
- Present design and construction-related legal issues and solutions to executives.
- Manage and resolve other various legal matters that are presented to the Real Estate and Construction Legal team.
- Respond promptly to internal department requests, summarizing and communicating legal risks while allowing a balance of risk that conforms to the company’s business objectives.
- Collaborate with members of the legal team to complete legal projects and initiatives that may or may not be related to construction.
Qualifications:
- Ten or more years of experience in legal practice with in-house experience and/or private practice specifically related to construction contracts and projects.
- Resident in Arizona for regular visits to our primary manufacturing facility in Casa Grande.
- Experience as lead counsel on construction contract drafting and negotiation for large-scale manufacturing projects using industry standard agreements including FIDIC, Consensus, etc.
- Experience vetting, engaging, managing and effectively working with outside counsel.
- Experience supporting or leading the resolution construction and design disputes including construction defect and delay claims.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes with little notice, to support construction legal efforts.
- Knowledge and understanding of design and construction laws, regulations and procedures, as well as industry trends and new laws that will impact the company.
- Experience working with municipalities, utilities, and various regulatory agencies on construction issues.
- General real estate transactional experience helpful, including real estate acquisition, disposition, and leasing.
- Effective organizational and planning skills with the capacity to simultaneously handle a variety of complex matters under strict deadlines and pressure.
