Job Description

The Associate Battery Engineer will work on the Product Development team to evaluate NMC cathode materials for use in 24M’s semisolid lithium-ion batteries and support all areas of materials testing and reporting. Primary responsibilities of this position include (1) materials validation (2) materials test method development (3) prototype battery assembly, (4) documenting testing method and procedures, and (5) analyzing and reporting results.

Qualifications

• MS/bachelor’s degree in chemistry or Materials Science preferred.
• Demonstrated electro-mechanical skills: equipment operation, materials handling, process assembly, and analytical testing.
• Ability to grasp technical concepts and communicate in a data driven manner.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction, also as part of team.
• Proven ability to complete projects on time.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook email applications
• Good attention to detail.
• Self-motivated and taking responsibility for project implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct materials characterization testing.
• Develop and validate standard test method and equipment, including physical and electrochemical characterization, write standard operating procedures.
• Assemble development cells from hand-built lab prototypes to semi-automated and automated assembly.
• Analyze and report test results and cell data.
• Performing other functions as required to support PD operation
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Supervisory Responsibility

• Work closely with technicians guiding their work and assisting them in developing a greater understanding of what they are doing and why they are doing it.

Additional Information

Physical and Environmental Standards: 

• Capable of working in low moisture dry room environment: < 1.0% Relative Humidity (-50°C dew point)
• Capable of working in machine shop environment and operating machinery w/proper training
  • Capable of wearing clean room attire when working in dry room environment: face mask, hair net, safety glasses, gloves, coverall suit and shoe covers
  • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs
