The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Behavioral Health Manager, LCSW-S. This position will work as part of an interdisciplinary, team-based program that cares for patients enrolled in the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) program at UT Health Austin Dell Medical School. TCHATT provides telemedicine or telehealth programs to school districts to help identify and assess the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents and provides access to mental health services. The Behavioral Health Manager, LCSW-S will possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, ability to work independently with a strong attention to detail and effective oral and written communication skill. The ideal candidate must maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional attitude when engaging with patients and their family members. The ideal candidate will also possess a commitment to professional ethical and practice standards.

This position has an end date of 8/31/2025, but may be renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals.

This is a federally and state funded position sponsored by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). TCMHCC was created by the 86th Texas Legislature to leverage the expertise and capacity of the health-related institutions of higher education to address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in this state in relation to children, adolescents, and perinatal women.

A flexible working arrangement agreement can be accommodated based upon the needs of the program and with supervisor approval. This position may require occasional work on-site for some of the scheduled work week. Remote work will require reliable internet access and a private suitable workspace free from distractions.

Purpose

This position will oversee other counselors providing TCHATT services and will provide mental health counseling to children, adolescents, and family members in the program.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manages a team of therapists. Participates in supervision, feedback, and quality assurance checks. Provides mentorship, support, and consultation to social workers or professional counselors, as needed. Provides guidance, direction, debriefing, clinical staffing, and support to staff, including TCHATT clinical staff.

  • Evaluates and provides diagnostic impressions. Formulates treatment plan according to evidence based practices and protocol. Conducts individual and family therapy sessions, as needed. Monitors patients for suicidal/homicidal intent and ensures patient safety if necessary. Undertakes crisis intervention, as needed. Maintains client records and performs data entry as required by protocols.

  • Hires, orients, supervises, and evaluates Licensed Professional Counselors and social workers. Manages timesheets and reviews time away requests.

  • Develops and implements quality improvement initiatives to analyze human, technical, and operational capacity and monitors outcome and efficiencies, including peer review, chart review, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. May help with coverage, staffing, and workflow optimization.

  • Attends appropriate training workshops, interdisciplinary meetings and client staffing as required. Applies knowledge and participates in the development and implementation of projects, and leading or participating in committees and/or workgroups.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Licensed Clinical Social Work Supervisor (LCSW-S) in the state of Texas. Minimum of five (5) years of post-degree clinical experience. Minimum of two (2) years supervising staff in a medical or educational setting. Experience working with children, adolescents, and/or family systems. Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting. Strong communication skills.
