Length of time: From now till March 2026
Starting Minimum Pay: up to $32 per hour DOE

YOUR OPPORTUNITY:
The Herff Jones Cap and Gown team, based in Champaign, IL, is looking for a Temporary Maintenance Technician to join our team.

HERE'S HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Reporting to the Facilities Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment in a manufacturing and distribution plant.

Technical and practical knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment and principals including, but not limited to:
• Chain & Belt drives
• Bearings & shifts
• Conveyor belts
• Building maintenance – upkeep and plumbing
• Pneumatic systems
• Mechanical timing
• AC low voltage power circuits (24-480)
• DC voltages (12-48)
• Control circuit troubleshooting
• PLC diagnosis (through PC or I/O cards)
• Electrical test equipment and troubleshooting
• Security systems
• Work order and labor logging

Knowledge and basic use of shop equipment for both wood and metal fabrication including, but not limited to:
• Saws and cutting equipment.
• General welding
• Fastening systems
• General carpentry and power tools


WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE:
• Positive attitude and work ethic
• Ability to prioritize and organize with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
• Desire and willingness to learn complex machinery.
• Strong technical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.
• Must be willing and able to be on an “on call” list for the facility security alarm system.
• Maintain a neat and clean work environment.
• Must be able to attend both offsite and onsite trainings as needed.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed including overtime.
• Work independently with little supervision.
• Assist and participate in Six Sigma, Lean or Continuous Improvement projects.
• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical maintenance strongly preferred.
• Previous work history with sewing and textile cutting equipment strongly preferred.
• Follow LOTO and PPE procedures when required.
• Assist with other facility needs as they arise.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Daily activity includes but is not limited to:
• Lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting.
• Standing on a fatigue mat in a specific area throughout a 10 hour+ shift.
• Be able to regularly lift/move up to 50lbs.
• Standing for 8 hours a day or longer.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to above moderate.
• Ability to work in an environment with repetitive motions of the arms, wrists, and elbows.
• Physical strength and dexterity to perform essential job functions.
