Position Overview

Virginia Tech seeks a collaborative leader with experience helping institutions implement and optimize the foundational technology platforms that enable academic and administrative operations. The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Enterprise Solutions & Enabling Technologies (ESET) is responsible for a newly formed team within the Division of Information Technology focused on creating and leading an enterprise application and systems environment that enables the university’s strategic goals and prioritizes the work of the Division of Information Technology. 

Virginia Tech is in the midst of implementing a comprehensive IT transformation and modernization of its core ERP and data systems. It is renewing its technology strategies and strengthening partnerships between the University’s Division of Information Technology and decentralized IT groups. As a member of the Vice President for IT & Chief Information Officer's leadership team, the AVP for ESET, leads the development, delivery and support of all enterprise and academic applications—including process transformation—in the support of teaching, learning, research and administrative needs of Virginia Tech. 

Leadership Agenda

The Associate Vice President leads the technology strategy for university’s Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERPs), the learning management ecosystem, service management tools, software development, integration services to connect disparate systems, database administration, data warehousing, business intelligence (reporting and analytics), and other enterprise-wide applications (both on-premise and cloud based). The AVP contributes to the goals, objectives and key results of the university IT Strategic Plan and manages ESET team and resources to achieve goals, objectives and key results. Key priorities for the AVP include:

• Structure the ESET organization, develop its culture and support the development of its staff.
• Build strong and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across the university.
• Create an enterprise applications roadmap that leverages modern design principles and technologies and effectively meets both current and future university needs.
• Support the on-going migration of Virginia Tech’s student information system to the cloud.
• Collaboratively develop a strategy for the future of finance, human resources, research administration and other major enterprise platform technologies.
• Upgrade the University’s data and reporting technologies to improve data integrations and access.
• Support the broader adoption of the University’s service management platform.
• Develop the capabilities and services to enable business process transformation.

Position Responsibilities

The Associate Vice President for Enterprise Solutions & Enabling Technologies will work collaboratively with university partners and key stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver an enterprise ecosystem that is user-centered, seamless, and connected; develop a deep technical understanding of the entire enterprise systems and solutions environment; and ensure cohesiveness, resiliency, redundancy, and reliability. They will lead a department that:

• fosters high-performing and agile teams dedicated to technical excellence and exceptional customer service, and fluid customer experiences
• adopts modern and forward-looking technology and service strategies structured around common technology layers and consistent service delivery through standard processes, and
• thoughtfully and collaboratively explores opportunities to drive and improve universities efficiencies (technological, financial, and human) by leverage scale and other strategies as appropriate.
